Rope chain is hollow. When it is hit with heat, the hollow chain pulls heat from the ends, melting the ends and shrinking the chain. Ultrasonic clean the chain. Flame with borax and alcohol as per soldering stone rings. The chain should have been trimmed square. Split 1mm of the ends prior to borax flaming. Fit the ends into each other. The splits should fit into each other. With a reducing flame, using the outer flame rather than the tip, heat from 2" from the break, to the break. Hollow chain is like a radiator rather than a solid piece. It will automatically pull the heat from the solder joint rather than heat into the joint. Allow the heat to fluff the flux and add a ball of plum gold solder. Should make an invisible joint, or nearly so. Use medium plumb gold.
