Wikipedia said:A glossary is an alphabetical list of terms in a particular domain of knowledge with the definitions for those terms. Traditionally, a glossary appears at the end of a book and includes terms within that book that are either newly introduced, uncommon, or specialized.
Our Glossary of Terms board area was created to provide a list of terms specialized to the lapidary arts and various rock related subjects found on this board. We cannot alphabetize the posts in this area, however in order to provide a unique Glossary of Terms board, we do need to adhere to some basic guidelines of posting here.
1. Please begin each post with the word, term, or terms being defined. Example title: "gemmy"
Asking questions are OK (gemmy - what is it?) as long as the goal is to arrive at a definition, but please stick with the above format so the Glossary of Terms board has a specific appearance different from every other board on this forum. General questions should be routed to their specific section - or the general rocks board.
2. One term per post - please do not combine multiple terms in one post unless they are obvious abbreviations or closely related (cab, cabs, cabochon, etc.)
3. Definitions and responses with definitions please be clear and concise and brief if possible - no thread hijacks or general chit-chat allowed in this area. A good Glossary of Terms is a general reference page that can be accessed, read, and understood quickly. It's not designed to be an all-encompassing encyclopedia.
4. In order to ensure a uniform appearance in the Glossary of Terms area, administration of this board reserves the right to fix titles and move out any posts that don't fit the description.
