Could someone please tell me what iris means in reference to Montana Agate?

Chuck - Iris describes an agate that, when cut thin, and held up to a light, breaks up light into different colors like a prism. Montana agates are not the only kind that can show the iris effect. But it's not common either. Here's a few pics that give you an idea what it looks like. I think this one is a cab by Bear Creek Lapidary, a member here. Rich
