*L* I hope it's better than the other times I've been in print. I don't take Rock and gem anymore so didn't see it. Sometime I'll have to tell you guys the story of the time I was interviewed about rattlesnakes or the time I was interviewed about plant quarantine work at the post office. One quickly learns not to give interviews if one can help it *L*....Mel

Mel, you'll always be famous to me Hey, I had bought some Scotch double sided permant super strong wonder tape thingy stuff from Home Depot, and it worked great, as I told you for the small stones I needed to dop but not have the nail head hitting on the wheel. But....that tape would let go when wet. Reading this thread got me the name of the real deal stuff, and I just ordered some on Amazon. It's like a mile or two long, and cost me plenty, but if it stays on wet, it'll be worth it, plus it will last until I have all my rocks dopped. Sounds like it's strong enough to dop boulders and rough them out on a jet engine, lol. I'm wanting strong!!! T

Tony, I have had a couple of smaller stones come loose but they had sat on the dops a year or so before I got to them which may have dried the sticky stuff some. The cool thing is though, they did not fly off but rather came off real slowly so I could catch them before they actually fell off the dop and were damaged. I just cleaned them with alcohol and put on new tape and no problems at all. The toughest thing with this outdoor type tape is removing the stone from the dop which must be done with care a bit at a time as that stuff holds hard.....Mel

I had a big problem with stones coming off the dop in cold weather when I used the standard green dop wax available through most supply outfits. I switched to Raytech's #32-004 brown faceting wax and haven't had a problem since. It's described as being an exceptionally adhesive, high shellac content dop wax preferred by many faceters. Softens at 145°F. Each pack contains 4 sticks 3/8" square x 4" long. I get it from Kingsley-North. While it grips in quite a bit of cold it pops off easily and cleanly after 5 minutes or so in the freezer. Rick
