yup. this stuff is part of the same formation that created rainbow wood in AZ, but here in so.utah it formed seam agate deposits in the chinle instead.

Does that rainbow agate hold together than the wood in AZ? unfortunately it tends to be even more fractured up than the AZ wood. usually, all you can find is thousands of chips littering the ground. I still collect it though because the colors are so vibrant. maybe I'll find some real nice solid stuff some day. the piece in the first pic is about the best I've found, but there's still a lot of vertical fracturing running parallel to the face pictured.
