Mokume gane translates closely to "wood grain metal" or "wood eye metal", A Japanese technique for stacking different metals to form a sandwich which is heated until some of the metals Or solder melt and join them. The resulting billet can be sawed into colorful strips and bent various ways to make appealing designs, rings, bracelets, etc.

Here's a piece I made using mokume sheet from rio grande. it's fold formed and forged, then given a blue patina.

I just pulled the trigger on a HabaƱero - Two burner forge from ChileForge and am in the process of building a Treadle hammer and a Power hammer to forge with. Hopefully I will be making some Mokume and Damascus shortly.
