Over the past few weeks there has been quite a bit of discussion about weather. Recently Jugglerguy stated that his kids had been out of school due to -20'F in Alpena Michigan recently. Today in Chattanooga, TN school was closed due to temps in the single digits this morning. But captbob, I gotta poke fun at Florida. I saw this today:

We're out again today. It's not just my kid, it's my wife and I too, since we're teachers.
50 degrees would be shorts weather if it happened tomorrow. Heatwave!

Seen this in the news paper yesterday and laughed a little because my daughter just applied to a college in this town. The snowiest place in the nation.
Marquette, Michigan (WFRV/WJMN) --While the Northeast is getting all of the attention, it's really Marquette, Michigan that's getting all the snow- according to the National Weather Service. Just shy of 150 inches of snow has fallen in Marquette so far this winter - the most in the nation.
The season started with a mid-November snowfall that dropped up to 40 inches in part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. And winter still has a strong grip on the region.
Says Todd Kluber of the National Weather Service, "Up here, we're used to seeing lots of snow. 100, 200, sometimes 300 inches of snow per year along Lake Superior or even more across portions of Upper Michigan."
Kluber goes on to point out that while the Northeast is seeing less than the UP, it's still a lot for them and it has come in a short period of time.
While Marquette has the most snowfall this winter, Buffalo, New York comes in second with just under a hundred inches of snow, and Boston is actually third, with about 90 inches of snow.

My sister lives in Marquette and my mom moved into an assisted living home there a couple years ago. Mom has Alzheimer's and has a memory of just a minute or so. I was talking to her on the phone today and mentioned that we had the day off of school. She couldn't remember if they had much snow, so she went to look out the window. She reported that there was a lot of snow. We have the weather conversation every time I call and she always has to look out the window.
We visit mom every spring break. Two years ago, my son and I went snowshoeing behind my sisters house on top of about three feet of snow. The snow was pretty much all melted in our yard by the time we got home.

3:00 in the afternoon here and we just reached 16 above. 6 above wind chill. When we finally get back up to 50 degrees, I'll be going outside in a T shirt. But then there are some states that go into panic mode if they get an inch of snow on the ground.

Having lived in Montana and North Dakota most of my life, the weather there in the winter months was killer!!!! Since moving to Oregon, the winters are very mild, but the ice storms are killer!!!! I know each of the states have their own wicked weather chances,so it is different views with different people.... It all sucks and it's better to be safe and let mother nature have her way....................LOL

-14 in Cleveland tonight.
I remember back in high school (30 years ago - in Schaumburg NW of Chicago) one night getting down to -30 actual with -70 wind chill. All the electrical outlets on the windward side of the house looked badly in need of defrosting.

OK this confirms it. All y'all northerners is crazy! Why any human being would voluntarily agree to live anywhere where 300 inches of fugly white Sh*t falls per year is beyond me. I hate it if we get a frost hard enough to make the ground slippery and, during such ridiculously evil weather events, I will be found wearing my lined jeans, my wool hat, my long sleeved Henley T, my lined shirt and my heaviest jacket and still bitching about the cold. I think the Russkies have a name for where you northerners live and work. It's called a freaking Gulag!......Mel

I guess you have to be raised in that type of weather to persevere. Not I.. I'm with Mel.
I have on my fleece pants and hoodie with a blanket on my lap because it's in the low 50's....and it's going to get down to the 30's tonight...woe is me. I hate winter.

This is from NORTHERN Florida. If it gets any closer, I may have to think on moving further south!

We're probably going to have to turn the heat on tonight.
Hope my wife remembers how to do that.

It's a freak'n heat wave. Almost 6:45 PM and we're way up to 21 above, with 8 above wind chill. 50% chance of that white crap tonight. This has been a mild winter so far for us S.D. folks.

We're out again today. It's not just my kid, it's my wife and I too, since we're teachers. 50 degrees would be shorts weather if it happened tomorrow. Heatwave! We had a letter to the editor a week or two ago from some place in Nunavut and the parent was upset school was cancelled in -50, ha. She was saying we're northerners, we're used to it! Don't think I've had any severe weather in Yellowknife yet. It's hit -40 without the windchill a couple of times but it's not really severe, just cold. My most severe run-ins up here so far have been with the homeless/drunk. I didn't see that coming. It's worse than East Vancouver in this tiny town. Some lady was telling me she was hungover off pop and then asked for money. I gave her the change in my pocket and she sneered and said "That's it?" Then you just walk past people screaming on the sidewalk or clearly drunk in the middle of the day. Lots of violence up here too.

People are probably drunk and violent because they read about people living where things are green right now. If it doesn't warm up soon, I'm going to be drunk and violent.
