Thanks, Dave. Only has one piece for sale on eBay right now. But yeah, saw the prices on his website. Pricey is an appropriate description.

rockpickerforever. That's the best kind of rock sale! Your slab is beautiful. The rock is new to me. Thanks for the show.

Wow! Is that all Howardite or is some Baskinite? That's quite a haul. Any plans on doing any selling anywhere?

Well, I think those photos were definitely worth waiting for! That is some awesome rock. I now have a better idea of what a chunk of Howardite rough looks like.
Chris, thanks for posting those! Jean

Been meaning to get a pic of this rough posted for some time now.
I had picked up a roughly 2" X 4" slab of this at an estate sale a couple years ago.
Last September, I went to a free rock sale, held by the daughter of the guy that the previous estate sale was for. Make sense? She wanted to thin out the collection of rocks in her back yard, be able to use her back yard again. These were collected over the years, probably most, but not all, from California and other nearby states.
At the "free rock pick."
A pretty good haul.
Somewhere in this load, was this rock here.
What do you think? Same stuff?
Since I've never seen rough of Howardite before, and actually only one slab of it, I wondered if this could be a chunk? Kinda looks like it? Don't even know where it is found. But makes sense that the father and daughter would both have some of it.
Any help appreciated. Jean

Nice find Jean. I think that fell out of my pocket at Tony's bbq - I'll be wanting it back please. I had never heard of howardite until I stumbled on this thread so I've been doing some googling and found this cabochon that looks dead-on like your side view of the rough. howardite comes from nevada its the same area as royal flamingo

No fooling? I know it is rare, but I don't think one slab and one "maybe" chunk of rough is going to make me rich. I didn't have crates full of it, wish I did!

This is an old thread someone revived lol. Since that time I've ran into Howardite a few times. I had a chance to buy three slabbettes at the Roseville show weekend before last. I almost pulled the trigger but the price he was asking was just way too high - not enough meat left on the bones for me.
I bought some Royal Flamingo at Quartzsite last year and have given most of it away. Not a big fan of cabbing it. In my clumsy fingers it loves to break on the pattern lines.

I understand it can be pricey, Tommy. Is it worth it? It's only worth what someone will pay for it, as far as I'm concerned. roy , sorry I missed your posts before I posted this morning, then didn't have time to go back in and acknowledge! Thank you for the info! (Stuff to do, people to meet, lol.) Actually, I went to my dad's.
I kind of missed the post where coleopterist posted about the value of it. He didn't add anything to the post where he quoted me in this thread. Here is the post I was referring to, in "What brought you to this forum?"
I stumbled upon this site by accident, while researching Howardite/Rattlesnake jasper/agate. I have just cut a 12 pound piece into slabs. A lady on the site had milk crates full of the material and was wanting to verify what it is. It is: Howardite/rattlesnake material, and is very desirable and very expensive material. She has a gold mine in the milk crates. I am an old rockhound, but have only spent the last two years obtaining rock, cutting slabs, cabs, and polishing. My wife does beautiful wire wrapping. I have over 3,000 slabs of well over 100 types of material. I love to trade rough and slabs with people. I am new to tumbling, and will start my very first batch this week.
So the chunk of rough I have is not Howardite, that's okay. I think it is still pretty cool. Mebbe I should put it in my safe?
I have one, and only one, slab of Howardite. No crates full of it. I think the crates full belonged to dominiongems , not me! I wish! I'm still poor, lol.

I understand it can be pricey, Tommy. Is it worth it? It's only worth what someone will pay for it, as far as I'm concerned. I sold a cab for over $100 a year ago - but the margins on that piece were worth the stress of creating the cab and not breaking it ... sneaking it past the wife ... and actually parting with it. Very stressful. The pieces I saw recently were each three times the price I paid for the piece a year ago.
