Dave's been asking what I've been up to. Not too much of late, except this piece just done over the weekend was inspired by the fine stone-set silver buckles I've seen here. I had a little trouble getting the piece up to temperature with my small torch. The back's a bit mucky, but that'll clean up some more (but at least my prongs are short )

Wow metal smith that is totally over the top.very clean design.did you make that cabochon?it looks very symmetrical and the polish is killer !!the silver looks a little thinned out in spots,is that an optical illusion?hard to tell from the pics.what are the little irregular pieces of wire on the corners of the back?do they serve a purpose? Keep up the awesome work Dave

Sorry, I can't take credit for the cab, except the length of time it took me to find it. I've also bought some beautiful rough, so we can look forward to my turning out my own one day in the not too distant future.
Yes, the idea in the symmetry and finish is to cross simplicity of the traditional english shoe buckle with the fine stone cab buckles I've seen you guys produce over the pond. I'm pleased you appreciate the straight simplicity is pretty difficult to achieve. And of course, it takes no prisoners - any imperfection stands out.
Yes, there is a little thinning and the corners could probably now come off, but helped to seat the stone.
And that nearest prong still looks a little long to me!

Thanks for all the kind comments. Never satisfied as I am, this went back to be refinished, tidying up the back in particular. Repolished with an additional grade 1200, rouge then 'orange' fine grade polishing wax. Hope the pictures show ok I think they do now.

That's even better. I LOVE that stone. Bloody bloodstone is the best!

That's even better. I LOVE that stone. Bloody bloodstone is the best! Thanks Rockjunquie ... it gnaws at me when its not right and it just wasn't right. Yes, I'm sure its a shortcut using a bought cab, but I wasn't joking when I mentioned 'the length of time it took me to find it'. I'll be working on another smaller bloodstone buckle next. Then maybe some dino bone. Man, you guys have some thing to answer for!

Feels like I'm dredging up an old post now, but anyhow, I've just finished the belt (my second) for this. For your delectation ... )

Hi there, I'm a big fan of this belt! Do you sell these anywhere?
