I am going to make my first trip to the Hauser Beds and Wiley Wells in a couple weeks. Any advice about looking for geodes or other material in the area? i have the Wiley Wells book and will be reading it.

Coon Hollow campground. Check out the fire rings, the tables, the borders, also under the bushes. Hounds leave their finds there.

My best advice is prepare for a loooong and bumpy drive. Plan where you want to go and take lots of maps and google earth images. We went out there earlier this year and while we didn't get lost, it's not as cut and dried as the guides make it sound.
Secondly be prepared and take the right tools for some heavy digging .

High profile vehicle. Good offroad tires. Top up gas tank at last service stop before Willey Wells turnoff. Lots of water. Take your own fire wood & TP.

I went yesterday. Just do your homework and you will be fine. It was my first time and I drove everywhere ( hauser, potato patch and cinnamon bed) with no problem.

Use some high quality sun screen, wear a hat and light clothing, have drinking water and a spray bottle handy, maybe some trail mix or a protein bar. Have a sack on hand, do not disturb native American artifacts.
Plenty of finds can be found just lying on the surface. I've hounded the Imperial Valley before(opposite side of the Chocolate Mtns.), lots of granite, sandstone, even banded rhyolite--which is decent tumbling material. Small agates, geodes of all kinds, fossils. All game. I once found a conch shell and a few military colored gas canisters, though I left the canisters alone.
