My next wife is always picking up and collecting stones when we go on outings to the mountain or river. I thought it would be a great idea to get her a Lortone 3A rock tumbler for Christmas. But I am really the one interested in the hobby, she just wants to collect cool looking rocks. Now she has a good reason to to get more rocks and I will hopefully make them beautiful. I have already spent days learning the techniques and tricks to getting the Good Results, and I have plenty of patience. But I am an experimenter and will be trying and asking about some unconventional ideas so watch out for some bizarreness along the way. I ordered late so our New Hobby won't arrive till after Christmas, but of course, I will be an expert by then.

Experimentation is great, but when you are new and have such a wonderful resource as this site, don't fool with it. Just learn the right ways to do it and later, after you have learned what you are doing and have been successful more than you fail (and you WILL fail) then play around.
Nothing builds interest and confidence like success.

*L* Can't help but to chuckle at your curious use of " my next wife". Does that imply you have a "current" wife that does not like rocks and is therefore, being replaced? If I made that comment in front of my "current" wife, I'd soon be experiencing my "next life", or rather more correctly, afterlife *L*.....Mel

My "next wife" will be a Gem . . . Never thought about having a wife for each tense. Present tense wife to be feared, especially if you have a past and future wife. Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to your experimental methods.

But seriously your gonna lose sleep over what to get next!! Oh yes . . . I could take this hobby seriously , I can already see that I should have gotten a dual tumbler . . . I can add it on to my other hobbies: Sound, Lighting, Video, Electronics, Photography, Solar & Wind Power, Canoeing, Carpentry, Smoker Grilling, Solar Tye Dying, and more . . .

Welcome! My final wife and I started with just collecting a pocketful of green rocks on a CA beach for a bathroom decoration - now just a few years later it's been a full blown addiction and a decent supplemental income until I get back to work early next year.

Some pictures from yesterday on my 60th birthday Belatedly wishing you a happy birthday! Unconventional thinking is called innovation where I come from. But some of the suggestions here to learn the rules then break them are good too.
