Is there any place around Saginaw to collect rocks. Some friends of ours just moved there.

As a Michigander, I'll comment. I've never heard of anyone rock collecting in Saginaw, but I head north for rocks, not south. I've been duck hunting in Saginaw Bay. The one place I went did not have any rocks that looked interesting. Maybe some other Michiganders know something. Drummond Island RockssnowmommanofglassPsychoziggyI'm probably forgetting someone.

I would say no. Bay city just north of Saginaw has some public beaches but they are all sand. I have kayaked out of Sebewing on the other side of Saginaw bay and found some great pudding stones around outlying Islands. No public land to do any shore hunting there though. 90 minute drive from Saginaw over to Lake Huron. Beach rocks are plentiful there.

I dug up this photo of rocks that were collected while kayaking in Sebewing. East side of Saginaw Bay. My aunt collected these and I offered her $100 for the nice one and she turned down the offer. Chuck

I was afraid of that. I couldn't find anything on the Web-which is why I was asking here.

My friend bought an old farm house there just because of the duck hunting. He's retiring this year and moving there. There are guides there who take their customers out on the bay in airboats. It was fun watching them shuttle customers to blinds all morning.

They bought the place as a get away for peaceful kayaking and then this year a couple of close neighbors got air boats and like to go out even late at night. They do look like fun though. Chuck

Those air boats will making zipping from island to island in search of pudding stone pretty easy.

I agree with everyone I've either walleye fished Saginaw bay or duck hunted. In this state most better quality rock is found across the bridge. From Saginaw Flint ridge in Ohio would not be a bad trip. I will be heading back there this summer sometime.

I know somebody who regularly pulls stuff out of some of the smaller parks in that area, the glaciers did a good job of distributing pudding stone much farther south into Indiana, Ohio, and Illiinois as well. Not as common as farther north, but still can be found. Burtchville city park is mentioned in discussion i read recently. be sure to show us what you find!

I thought I would revive this thread from a few years back. Are there any places along the east side of Saginaw Bay to do a bit of Rock Hounding? My wife wants to do go on a shopping trip on the U.S. side of the border for a few days. She wants to make me feel like I'm getting something out of this trip by giving me some time to rock hound. I don't need to know someone's secret spot, but I figure that the least my Michigan friends can do is to give me tip or two. After all I am pumping my hard-earned loonies into your local economy - LOL - . Anything would be appreciated. I still have plenty of Lake Superior rocks at home for tumbling, so I promise I won't take too many. From the above, it looks like Sebewing might be a possibility (?)

I’m sorry I don’t have the answer to your question, only another question to add – does anyone know if there’s Flint in Flint?
