Thanks to all of you who make this board such a valuable resource. Thank you 1dave for all your knowledge and expertise in geology!
My grandson and I will be flying out to Utah this spring, landing in Salt Lake City. We have a couple days before heading towards Green River and then Grand Junction to pick up my son and his wife (thanks to the Air Force for letting him take a couple days off).
Red Horn Coral is high on our wish list. It seems the Riley Canyon site might be mostly depleted. A “new” location near Lookout Pass between Vernon and Dugway (Gary Morgan, Rockhoundingutah.com) is mentioned but I haven’t been able to find any other specific information. If I can locate this site we might combine it with a visit to the Tintic Mining District.
We’ll try sites around Green River and Cisco, to search for grape agate, pigeon blood agate, jasper and petrified wood, and time permitting, areas near Moab.
Should we head to Yellow Cat and Poison Strip or would we have better luck in the Hansen Creek area? It will be early in the season so the road conditions and weather might ultimately determine where we end up.
Finally, we have a reservation to visit Blue Crystal Mine. Specific information about collecting limits and the exact site conditions are a bit sketchy. I assume we will be searching old tailings. Any advice you all might have regarding these sites would be greatly appreciated. I’m hoping to have lots of photos and information to share in April.

Welcome Julie! I have no useful input for you but it sounds like a fun trip in the making.
