We've never been to your show, but have fond memories of a member there.
We were driving to Quartzite and on to Tucson, when we stopped on a fairly deserted road. No other cars on the road, when a pickup truck pulled over, a man got out and walked toward us. Hmmm, hope he is friendly!
He wanted to know if we needed any help. We didn't, but had stopped to look at the biggest bird nest we had ever seen. Instead of strings, feathers, and tiny twigs, it was made of twigs a centimeter in diameter! A person could curl up in it. Not inclined to do that, but didn't really want to see the nest owner up close either!
We talked about our respective clubs, and had a nice break.
Anyhow, good memories of a club member!

Paul www.vvgmc.org/tailgate.htmlI saw you mention this in my intro thread (thanks for jumping in), and this might be doable for me. Being new in the hobby, I'd probably be "lost," but I'd love to see what something like this entails. I'd have liked to get to Quartzite or Tucson, but timing was not good - so this is the next best thing for me right now. I've got it marked on the calendar. Dave

One of the Commiefornia shows I really miss. Like Susan has said though, man that is one where the weather is all over the place. One year snow, another hot and beautiful spring wildflowers, another blowing like a by god.....Mel

I am within 20 miles of that spot every day of my life (except sundays).
It is very wet, but not very cold this winter. Lots of rain puddles everywhere. I would be comfortable today with my 4x Tacoma. But not my Hyndai Elantra!
I'll update as we get closer to whenever this is.
Anybody know the date?

Excellent, looking forward to seeing everyone. It's been several years since I've made it up but it was fun seeing everyone and definitely a great place to get some rocks.

Hmmm... that's an 'off' show weekend for me... Newark is the week before and San Jose is the week after.
I'd have to find an overnight sitter for Momma though...

For those who have been to this show before, how much time should I allot? I am hoping to get there first thing Saturday morning, spend a few hours, and then perhaps beeline toward Pisgah Crater/Lavic area to see what I can pick. For those in the know, is this conceivable? Thanks and regards.

We used to camp for the whole weekend. It can be a very large show depending on weather forecast. If you want to rockhound, the club leads a trip on Saturday (I think) to the tri-colored marble on backside of hill by show. You can also walk up the show side of hill and collect the Verde Antique marble. You will find a lot of rock at the show too.

Hi Dave
That's my plan....
The show is big enough to be worth the 3 hours from San Diego, but, depending on your level of talking with all the great folks there, it's a 2-3 hour show. My buddy Frank and I are heading up early Saturday morning, hitting the show, then it's off to the Lavic/Cady Mountains area. Staying overnight in Barstow and heading back to the Cadys on Sunday. The down side is a warm weather front moving in for that weekend (maybe...it is weather more than a week away, after all), so temp might be sneaking above 80 out on the rocks.

Have always wanted to go, but those pics with the snow, the other year? Makes me rethink that, lol. I think we'll be heading out to the local desert (Painted Gorge, near Ocotillo - not Ocotillo Wells, jamesp ) this Saturday 3/4, supposed to be a lovely 80 degrees! Have missed too many field trips (from three clubs) recently due to rain.
