Picasso Marble is ~50 miles north of Cedar City. Holt Canyon ~70 miles south of Cedar City. Obsidian is in the Black Rock Desert ~50 miles north of Milford, septarian ~50 miles east of Cedar City.

where would one stay Cedar City? There are lots of hotels in town. This is before the Shakespeare Festival, so there shouldn't be a problem getting rooms. Since I live here, I've never stayed at a local hotel, so can't make any recommendation. Lynn

It's a 45 min drive to Minersville where Picasso is found. I haven't been there since they "reclaimed" the site, but I've heard people are still finding good material there. Septarians are found about 1 1/4 hour away. Obsidian is found north of Milford. I haven't been there in years. Maybe someone else will chime in about Obsidian. Lynn

Agate locations north of Cedar City - The far right red dot is the location of the famous Fiddler Canyon Blue Agate - it weathers out in the area around lynn's home. " Bloody Ridge" is in the middle.

I, and many former and current members of the southern Utah rock club would very much appreciate it if directions to the Holt Canyon collecting site are not posted here directly. The club has tried very hard to keep this location out the world's spotlight to keep it from being overrun. Please send directions via PM if necessary. Respectfully, Don.

Thanks for the invite! That would be a great trip! Unfortunately, we won't be able to make this trip as we'll be in Cedar City for the week of July 16-22. Please ping me with the trip reports as I am planning on making a rockhounding day in that week as well. Barbara and I visited Cedar City almost 19 years ago (pre-kids) and visited all the national/state parks in the area and the boys asked to go for the next (2017) summer vacation after hearing us talk about it.
