My sister had a ranch in Clearwater. I took my daughter (age 9 at the time) with me for a wedding and to clean out my prospecting supplies that I had stored at her place (she was about to sell the place). At the airport, I was going to rent a 4x4, but Amy saw the red Mustang in the parking lot and I caved to her wishes. I have been to BC countless times, but that is certainly one of my favorite. The other place I have fond memories is Atlin, BC (south of Whitehorse YK). Only you need a 4x4 there and that car would have been trashed.

Nasty trip with the roads like that. Snow pac is at 900 m. I knew it would be a tough time getting there, if at all this early. But you can't tell that to two people with gold fever. Glad I'm driving. At least I won't let the fever get me stranded or killed. Will snap some pic's and let you know how made out. Even the ski hills have extended the year until the end of the month might get into May before they close for the summer? Marmot, Lake Louis and the high country got snow all week again. Have seen the sun only once since last week. Still getting snow Lmao! Calling for warmer temps by next week in the 20s, creeks could be running high and fast by the time you guys get in there, good luck to ya! These pics were between Golden and Revelstoke. FYI : bushmanbilly www.edmontonsun.com/2017/05/06/flooding-mudslides-wreak-havoc-across-southern-bcTwo men are missing, homes have been damaged and more evacuation orders are in place as flooding and mudslides wreak havoc across southern British Columbia. A 76-year-old man in a community north of Salmon Arm is unaccounted for after a mudslide enveloped his home Saturday, RCMP said. Several other homes were damaged and a road leading to about 100 residences was cut off by the slide in the community of Tappen. Meanwhile, the search continued for a missing fire chief in the village of Cache Creek who is believed to been swept away by swollen creek early Friday. Central Okanagan Emergency Operations officials say new evacuation orders were issued within Kelowna on Saturday, as flooding threatened 90 multi-family units, four single homes and one commercial property. Warm temperatures speeding up the spring snowmelt and recent showers have resulted in rising water levels for many rivers and creeks.

The good news about flooding is it tends to move and concentrate placer gold. The bad thing is all of the damage. My brother had a 100+ year old home outside of Avola, BC. It had been logged up-mountain and the resulting mudslide during spring rain completely erased the place. Thank goodness nobody was at home at the time.

I have been paying close attention to this. I want to delay this trip. But! The fever has got a hold of my two friends. And nothing I say will change their minds. I'm prepared for the worst. Just got the F-150 tuned up, new grips all the way around. Only problem is my tire chains are on back order. Not much call for cleats on pickup chains. Mudslide across access roads are my biggest worry. I know there will be a few blow downs. Buts thats the norm in the spring. Leaving in the am tomorrow. Wish me luck. I hope the Teddies are not too hungry as they follow the snow pack up the mountain. Will take some photo's.

Where about are you heading too? I will be in the Fort Steel area in early May. To check out a Moose pasture gold claim a buddy bought sight unseen on Fisher Mountain. Oh oh. The sight unseen claims in BC (sold on Craigslist and Kijji) are usually sold by pirates who create a good story and the spot does not "pan out". Hope your friend did not get rooked. Bingo!!!!!!.....Yep thats who they bought it from. I hate it when people call for advice and then don't take it. They get mad at me when I tell them to buy a Moose call. So they can become friends with the inhabitants they will share the pasture with.

Moved the thread over to Specimen pics under BC seam agate, except you saw those ones. Was going to go again this week but caught a flu bug and have been sick as a dog for the last 3 days and still not over it. With the long drive and hard digging my body just couldn't handle it at this moment. Trying for June now. Or is the question for bushman?

Already patched the elbows and knees on my swimming suit. Hehehehe Have a great afternoon.

Ya, very wet spring and cool temps this year with a slow melt. Watching the hwy conditions, mudslides and flooding seem to be the problems right now. Best to wait until drier conditions in June then sitting on a closed hwy.

Back in the day we used to drive over the top of mudslides even a half mile wide and wider. Deep ones too. Just get on top of the rocky muck and keep your rpms up. What town you live in there? Farming, fishing or mining? Greenhouse-nursery here.

Winter has a good hold this year. I bet you would need some hi rpm and tracks would be better then tires The week before hwys were still closed in some araeas due to avalanches and rock slides in the high counrty. A few hours North and West of me all the way up to Alaska, I'm guessing, was caught up in this all weekend. Got lucky here and only rain. Haha! Reside in a small community dead center in the middle of the Province. Farming, oil and gas are the big ones here.

What a weather bomb spring so far bushmanbilly . Getting updates from family of the fantastic inundation of water the interior is receiving, Have you caught any of this? Okanagan lake water levels are at heights I've never seen in my lifetime. This dock is in Vernon, lucky to see 2 to 3 feet of water under it. The first pic was taken in April, next one was last week. They removed the railings to keep debris from getting stuck in it. The vid is near Peachland. The lake is almost at hwy level on 97. Today the TransCanada is closed from Revelstoke to Sicamous for approx 2 days. The closure is causing heavy traffic in the area and as a result, officials have closed Highway 1 westbound from Golden to avoid traffic backing up in Revelstoke.

Nice Pics of the gold claim. First thing I notice - no bedrock exposed. In fact, looks maybe glacial rather than old stream bed. Makes for a difficult prospecting trip. Looks like some cobbles though and that is a good sign. The old timers did not waste time moving cobbles unless there was good gold. The culvert is one of my favorite things to test. In the right area, they are like little sluice boxes. I have never prospected that area, but know Boulder Creek was one of the historic placer creeks.

There is a lot of bedrock. Just a crappy claim. The only level spot is the road. Sniping claim at best. The culvert would be a good spot if you can beat the locals to it. I kept telling these guys that the claims were garbage. Their answer was that there are three creeks running through it. My answer was. Running is a understatement, more like sprinting. The claim has about a 60% slope to it. And that the creeks you see on the map are spring runoff streams. Boulder creek was once a real hot spot. Still gold in it. But the oldtimers cleaned it good. As it is almost solid bedrock all the way to the mouth. Traveled beside it to another claim they bought. It was worse than the one pictured. A mile off boulder with a spring runoff stream for water. The old town of Fisherville looks like a bomb went off. One would never know it was a town if not for the history sign posts telling visitors what building was there. People are still finding gold in the old town site even though its off limits to prospecting. Its amazing how much rock was moved by the oldtimers. It was mined until the flume broke that they built from the water source a few miles away. Still had a good time and even found some gold panning the Wildhorse at the free panning site at the new town.
