Wow, great pictures. Your favorite picture of Jax is beautiful!
I don't think I would have the nerve to climb down into those old caves/mines. They look rather ominous. Have you run into trouble doing that? Animals, snakes?

Thanks for the ride-a-long. We've heard so many people grumble about the desert being nothing but miles and miles of miles and miles, you sure prove them wrong by getting close to it, beautiful terrain. That favorite pic. of Jax is indeed a prize winner.

I love the desert. So much beauty. Not interested at all in going into any cave! Thanks for the ride along. Jax is a honey.

Have you run into trouble doing that? Animals, snakes? Just once in the back of this mine: 20160516_131904 by James Sloane, on Flickr Found this one in the very back of the mine. It started hissing so loud that it sounded like a major gas leak. Very unnerving in an dark mine. 20160516_121449 by James Sloane, on Flickr

Another great exploration. I'd be all up in those caves but Jax would have to go first, not much on the free rain snakes 😂 btw those areas would be a nice guided tour in May(hint, hint) 🙈🤓👷🏻♀️⚒

Wow. Aussie dogs are characters, Jax is classic. That desert is a dreamland. However I do like my forestation. But when it comes to rock hunting it is a pain. There is no telling how many voids and pockets containing treasures in your photos. Melissa's idea, guided tours ??

Really nice pics! The blue stain looked like copper. Did you harvest any? Do you take along a snake-bite kit for the dog? I would be so worried that my dog would get poisoned and die before I could get out to a vet.

What a great outing you had that day. The cactus are outstanding. I love cactus. The scenery is superb I bet it was so quiet and peaceful. Jax looks like a very happy rock hound. I have been in a few caves, not very far, but far enough without a flashlight. Are you going to dig out where its stoned and mudded over? Thank you for posting the beautiful pictures.

Really nice pics! The blue stain looked like copper. Did you harvest any? Do you take along a snake-bite kit for the dog? I would be so worried that my dog would get poisoned and die before I could get out to a vet. I did not get any out of that mine, although I would love to work that one vein. The rock in there is really hard compared to the other mines. Did get some stuff out of the tailings and some more from a prospect way below this mine. Snake bite kits can do more harm than good. And studies have shown that with rattlers the venom stays within one inch of the bite for about an hour if in tissues. Although I have a friend who just lost her dog a few weeks ago due to what appears to be a snake bite. The vets say no because there is no swelling, but he got bit in the neck (two puncture marks). If the venom went right in to a major blood vessel the venom would disseminate and dilute so quick that is can still cause the hemolysis but not the localized swelling. Anyway, I personally think that better than a snake bite kit would be proteolytic enzymes to digest the venom and hyaluronidase inhibiting herbs to stop the spread of the venom. Not going to hurt anything and can buy more time to get back to a vet.

Yes, the more I think about it the more curious I am about what they hid behind that wall they built.

I suspect that those walls either served as a retention wall, to keep looser material from clogging the main portal. That or maybe they were as a place to stack dug out rock instead of having to haul it out to the surface. Don't see any rails here so I assume this was a hand worked mine, or may rails were removed for scrap.
That or the Aztecs hid all the gold behind the wall.
