Thanks for taking us along. Great pics and very enjoyable seeing what is left in the mines and surrounding areas. Is Jax trained to see and avoid snakes?

Really nice pics! The blue stain looked like copper. Did you harvest any? Do you take along a snake-bite kit for the dog? I would be so worried that my dog would get poisoned and die before I could get out to a vet. I did not get any out of that mine, although I would love to work that one vein. The rock in there is really hard compared to the other mines. Did get some stuff out of the tailings and some more from a prospect way below this mine. Snake bite kits can do more harm than good. And studies have shown that with rattlers the venom stays within one inch of the bite for about an hour if in tissues. Although I have a friend who just lost her dog a few weeks ago due to what appears to be a snake bite. The vets say no because there is no swelling, but he got bit in the neck (two puncture marks). If the venom went right in to a major blood vessel the venom would disseminate and dilute so quick that is can still cause the hemolysis but not the localized swelling. Anyway, I personally think that better than a snake bite kit would be proteolytic enzymes to digest the venom and hyaluronidase inhibiting herbs to stop the spread of the venom. Not going to hurt anything and can buy more time to get back to a vet. Snake bite kits suck. Literally and figuratively. IV bites kill! Almost immediately, every time. The venom eats the heart and lungs. Never CUT a bite. Ever. Even if the swelling is so bad the skin may tear.

I like you tube. You tube shows a man take a poisonous snake and he lets it bite his arm. No reaction. He must be immune to the poison. Crazy. Just a little bump.

I suspect that those walls either served as a retention wall, to keep looser material from clogging the main portal. That or maybe they were as a place to stack dug out rock instead of having to haul it out to the surface. Don't see any rails here so I assume this was a hand worked mine, or may rails were removed for scrap. That or the Aztecs hid all the gold behind the wall. Henry Most of the mines removed their rails when they closed to use in other mines. At one point there were rails in there. A large tailings pile outside and a wood platform where the rails ended to dump the rock. I looked at it closely and could not see any reason for the wall to have been built other than to seal off a shaft or something. I wonder if maybe they put their equipment in a shaft and sealed it off in case they reopened later. The mine is way up with no roads to it so getting equipment there would have been a major challenge.

Thanks for taking us along. Great pics and very enjoyable seeing what is left in the mines and surrounding areas. Is Jax trained to see and avoid snakes? No I have not trained her in snake avoidance. Actually snakes are quite rare here. I was born and raised here and in all this time have only seen 3 rattlesnakes and 2 other non-venomous snake. And when that Great Basin gopher snake started hissing she froze in her tracks. Still I have been thinking about doing that because she loves chasing and catching lizards and I am worried she might mistake a snake for a lizard.

Wow. Aussie dogs are characters, Jax is classic. That desert is a dreamland. However I do like my forestation. But when it comes to rock hunting it is a pain. There is no telling how many voids and pockets containing treasures in your photos. Melissa's idea, guided tours ?? I am taking Melissa and her husband out to some mines when they come here shortly. I'm going to hold you to that 😂😂
