Hello guys! Hi from Holland! I love all the info here me and the boyfriend will be in Utah for the next 2 weeks and I was looking for great places to find geodes. Well, for guided tours actually. Because we could use some experienced help and our rental car is not allowed on dirt roads... of and we don't have any equipment. Lots of reasons! Anybody knows about guided rockhounding tours in the Utah region? Thanks!!

Hello from Texas. I do not know that much about Utah but I am sure someone will respond from that area. A shovel or pick is not that expensive. My favorite tool is about 20.00 from Lowe's or Home Depot. It is a combo digging tool with a pick on the other side. I don't know whats is called but came from the garden section.

Welcome from California! I don't know the answers to your question but just out of curiosity what region(s) of Utah are you headed to? Are you doing the national parks tour? Utah is such a beautiful place - we've been there twice in the last year - and already looking forward to returning.

Lynn has got to be toast after the big effort he made. Wow.. But maybe hes got some spit left but maybe not. He just made the supreme effort for the group and fought a civil war too.. Hes got a show In Grand Junction Colorado this weekend to prepare for,,set up and sell. . Maybe you guys can suggest a million , easy to do things and also tour Bryce and Zion. Cedar Breaks is amazing as well. Dugeay is pretty untended etc. since the gov, permit went south. Too bad they weren't closer to Richardsons in Ore or Lucky Strike so they could get hundreds of big, pretty geodes. Deodes are plentiful also in the many rock shops that dot the area. Wish there had been more notice and they had been member for a loger time. Western hospitiality is famous and the folks sound nice but a tiny bit more advance work and warning would have done them a better vacatin.

1dave what are the roads like getting in to the Dugway geodes? I was last there in 1995. Since then the claim owner (in Delta Utah) died, his children took over and disliked rock hounds, then changed their minds. Last I heard RH's are doing well. Dugway Roads

Asking for geodes is legit, but suffice it to say that a great many localities (many need to be visited by random road stops :on BLM or US Forest Lands) will yield agates, jaspers, petrified wood samples and other unknown treasures). Don't be afraid to explore with the knowledge that BLM (Bureau of Land Management) and US Forest Service lands are open to noncommercial rock collecting unless specifically prohibited. Welcome to the USA and here's hoping you find enough rocks to meet your desires and can buy the rest at reasonable prices. SE Utah and San Juan County is big and beautiful. SW Utah is equally so.

I have never rock hounded in Utah, but if you want to do anything down in Southern Nevada or near Southern California I can help out.

Know that Loy is looking down on us with a approving smile. He'll probably have all the cloud agates and heavan stones under a claim . Smiling big in his memory..

Wow, thanks for all your advice! I will look into it! We just left Bryce and are heading up to Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef. I am still interested, if anyone has some advice on locations. Did find some nice rocks already, but geodes are still on my wish list
