You may have been there when we were. Best bet there is the washes as most of the surface material has been picked over. Jeremy and I pulled a few nice pieces out of one wash. It was hot, but not too hot for a Houston boy! Waiting for Teri's Spring schedule that might be out bout mid-Feb. Still hopeful that a portion of Singleton will be open to collecting.

Looks like (Google) Needle Peak (mountain) is in a National Park? Is there a specific collecting area outside the park?

Looks like (Google) Needle Peak (mountain) is in a National Park? Is there a specific collecting area outside the park? Teri Smith has access to a ranch that is next to the park and just North of East Needle Peak. Some nice material from there and I hope I cut a piece of pompom agate, but nothing is yelling at me that it is pompom. I cabbed a really nice red moss from there a couple of days ago.

Wonderful field trip report! That Pom pom agate is off the charts nice and your slide show from Singleton real needs to come with a drool warning. Man, you got some nice plumes from that place....Mel

Needle Peak is just outside of the Park with the boundary off a bit to the southwest. It used to be marked by some fence posts 30 years ago. The section that Teri has access to is off to the East of the Peak with the classic areas being closer in towards the Peak itself. We used to drive in from the Northwest and across Well Creek at the old Dead Cottonwood tree to access the north and east slopes or drive in the creek for a mile or so to access the northeast slope. hiking out with any weight at all. Ownership of the collecting area used to be pretty sketchy, which seems to have changed in the last few years. Jeremy's PomPom agate is the best I saw being collected there.

When I was there a year ago found a petrified pearl which was pretty cool. Didn't take a pic of it and gave it to Teri for her museum. Still haven't cut any of the material so kind of excited. That Jeremy has the agate eye.
