Haven't soldered anything for well over a year, but got the bug yesterday. Decided on a different look. The stone is lab and the silver ball is just that. Melted scrap, with a flat bottom. When I oxidized it, these great patterns showed up on the ball because I didn't file it smooth first. Textured the band.

These work well together! Liking the oxidation.

Love the look. All the pieces play off each other so nicely. Especially the textured band.

That is an interesting idea. May have to think about stealing the idea.

Thanks all. Bennett, steal away. It was basically an accident. When in doubt, oxidize! You can always remove it later if you want. I know, it's lazy, but I'm sorta lazy.

That ring looks great. Is there a way to add the blackened oxidized look using stuff around the house?

Thank you! That's a good question. Offhand, I can think of 2 things for free that will oxidize sterling. 1) Time. Lots of time. 2) Fire. But then there's the chance of ruining your stone and melting your silver. Liver of Sulphur or Hydrofluoric Acid (both available at your jewelry supply store) do just fine.
