Then you have to add freight cost from Springdale PA, 15144. Lampus will sell it to you. Minimum is 3000 pounds. It would be sixty 50 pound bags on a pallet. Total cost $1350 plus freight. It is described as 3/8" and smaller. So it is crushed or screened or both, with 3/8" maximum size.
I got a freight quote to ship it to an Atlanta dock for a dock pick up at $1090. I consider that an expensive rate. I would get a freight quote from Lampus. They might be a lot cheaper since they ship so much SiC in truck load quantities.
It grinds well and would have been the better way to go for all my tumbling over the past 5 years. As I estimate my coarse silicon carbide costs close to $1500 over 5 years for about 700 pound of course SiC.
I could see say 6 to 10 guys going in together. But whomever receives the 3000 pounds would have to turn around and motor freight say 300 to 500 pounds out to the individuals. Or LFRB each bag. I personally would gladly take 10-50 pound bags.
If you could get the pallet + freight down to $2000 total it would be lucrative. 66 cents/pound plus the cost of re-distributing. Cheapest would be shipping it 50 pound bag at a time in a LFRB. If it would even fit in a LFRB.
Anyone living near Springdale PA with a trailer ?

jamesp I'll take 5 bags if it goes Jim. Who is closest, strong and is willing to send the stuff to us in exchange for a great price on theirs? Hmmm More central to the rest of us who will use it? Closer to reduce freight. Just One maybe?

Anyone living near Springdale PA with a trailer ? I'm about 30 minutes from their Springdale plant and have access to trucks/equipment for hauling and unloading. I might even have access to a warehouse for storage. But...I have absolutely no interest in buying, selling and distributing a ton and a half of SiC. During my working years(masonry construction)I did a lot of business with Lampus and still have sporadic contact with some of the salespeople. I'll try reaching out to them and see if I can find a better solution for y'all.

If I were on site I would arrive with trailer and 6-8 pallets, pick it up and divide it right on the spot 6-8 ways and leave directly to closest freight company and re-ship it. Or, find a user that already buys truck load close by and twist their arm to get a pallet thru them. That could reduce shipping to $200-300. Much cheaper shipping that way.

Kind offer, but do want to mention it is somewhat experimental at this point. Re-palletizing sixty 50 pound bags is a work out. Then shrink wrapping, doing paper work, arrangements, curbside deliveries, it all adds up.

Any way, I have been triple dosing with this stuff and like it for 1 week runs w/no grit additions. 1.5 cups for 6 pound barrel at 55 RPM, and running one 1 pound rock as a grinder stone. Makes a fine abrasive rich slurry.

I think we'll get it figured out. May think about talking to the Rock Shed. They might want to play with half a pallet.

james did they offer it in the supersack? why pay for 50 lbs bags when you will likely have to tear them open to fit lfrb (which would probably be the cheapest shipping option. for the size of most of your end users orders) 200 lbs orders would be roughly 4 lfrb. that would put shipping at under 80 dollars per order. doubt you could load an empty pallet on a truck for that.

If the 50 pound bag will fit in a LFRB it would probably be a time saver. To avoid re-bagging. I believe he quoted the same price super sack or bagged. Keep in mind you do not want it to get wet. Bags may be drier.... quartz@shotgunner zekester55Glad there is some interest. I too will take some, say 500 to 800 pounds gladly. I am fairly certain I have seen train cars loaded with it here in Atlanta. There is only one manufacturing facility left in the US making SiC. The rest of it comes from China. The plant is around Illinois Michigan Ohio ?(can't remember) If anyone is interested in pursuing, the salesman at Lampus is very open and easy to talk to about small pallet pricing and purchasing. His name is Andy @ 412-362-3800 Keep in mind, Lampus is probably one of several distributors. And China may be a great source in smaller quantities.

I just called to get a freight quote to an Atlanta freight dock to see what Lampus shipping rates are.
And confirmed, the 3000 pounds in 50 pound bags costs the same as a 3000 pound super sack.
The bags are sewn sealed kraft paper with poly liner.

I thought the SiC plant was at Niagara falls? Shut down. Last one standing is somewhere Ohio - Illinois. I did not ask Lampus salesman due to proprietary nature.

I do like the release rate of this abrasive. I screened it and add it about 1/3 1/3 1/3 of each size. The bigger stuff does time release. Lets me run one week w/out opening barrel. Then do total clean out. It's all gone by then. Keep in mind I am tripling the dose. 1.5 cups/6 pounds rock.
