Great trip report and great photos . Only been to Lake Huron one time for about a week , long before the rock addiction . We were on Manitoulin Island seeing some friends .

What a great post Rob// Love the fish ducks(Mergansers) not very good to eat but beautiful birds. Also like sneaking up on them when they dive. Not to hunt but just because I can. The shipwreck wood is awesome and wasn't put together with nails. Be interesting to dive of that area and snoop around off shore. Show us some of those soft, pretty pudding stones you found. Don't own a pudding stone for sure. But would love to see what you are finding. Bet you have some nice pieces of native copper too. You're not just another stone bowl maker. hehehe

Those drift woods would bring some money here Rob.

Thanks for the trip report, Rob. Looks like a beautiful paddle around the shore. Was going to attach the 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald', but wrong lake. Interesting finds though, would like to see this one.
ETA: looks like James was at it while I was typing. Wrong lake be damned.

Beautiful scenery and no shortage of rocks. The driftwood is really cool- if only they could talk. Some old ones, too, looks like.

Those drift woods would bring some money here Rob. Being a sanctuary, the wrecks are protected. You can't take anything off a wreck. I'm not sure how that applies to stuff that's washed up on the beach, but I wouldn't take a chance trying to sell it. Cool to look at though. A couple summers ago, my son and I kayaked out to look at a couple of wrecks. They're just outside of the harbor. In the past, old ships were disposed of by just sinking them, which is why these are so close to the harbor. By the time we got in the water, the wind had come up and we could only see a dark outline of the ships. Bryan had his GoPro with him, so he got upwind and drifted over the wreck and got some great video. There are two buoys just off shore where I was yesterday. We have a glass bottom boat that does tours here. I saw it drifting over those wrecks yesterday. I didn't go out to look because it was kind of rough by that time.

Some kayak company makes a glass bottom yak , don't remember the brand name . Here it is. $1500 is a lot of money for a kayak. I don't know how the bottom wouldn't get all scratched up. My kayaks take a lot of abuse, just pulling them out of the water. If the bottom was somehow scratch proof, that would be really cool.

OUCH We looked at one a few years ago but don't think it was that brand or that money . I think they were on the pricey side though . And I agree they would get scuffed up pretty bad .

The video was taken on the same beach that I went to yesterday. wow Heck of a video. Love that clear water and all the neat rock. Have an idea for all your Petoskeys. How about a traveling rock box? Fill a large box with Petoskeys and then the next person takes Petoskeys and adds something of theirs to keep the volume the same. The people can only take Petoskeys and in the end you get the box back with a lot of different rocks.

Cool idea, but I have a bid on the box. Few will want to pay $15 in postage for a few petoskies. I certainly would not.

Rob, they do get scratched. Once in water it is as if the scratches facing the water disappear. On wish list.

Another clear kayak I love I wonder if that magnifies or otherwise distorts the view. Seems like it would.

James, now that's the kind of kayak a great white shark would love to see offshore here. A clear shot so they can dial in on someone's ass! I think that would scare the bejesus out of me. Would rather NOT see it coming. CHOMP...
This guy didn't need a clear-bottomed kayak to see his pursuer.
SCARY

Another clear kayak I love I wonder if that magnifies or otherwise distorts the view. Seems like it would. No it does not. The light will bend/refract making objects look displaced when viewed from a steep angle, but no waves/distortion/water reflection. Rented one at St Joe Bay in the Gulf of Mexico for scalloping. The ones with a small viewing window in the bottom work well too and are available on much cheaper models. The all clear kayak is polycarbonate and is $. The worst thing about viewing in water as you are probably aware is the waves from wind or walking causing distortion. Not an issue with a clear bottom. I would guess the ship parts and driftwood are artifacts and not to be collected.

It is the real deal, James.
from seakayaking.wordpress.com/2006/12/14/sharks-from-a-kayak/
They are quick to point out that not all black finned shadows you see below your kayak are sharks though…
This one was identified as a dolphin by snopes dot com .
If you ask me, the only way to be 100% sure of not coming in contact with a shark is to STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE WATER!
Have had a lot of great white sightings recently, and beaches closed down. A woman was bitten by a shark at San Onofre State Beach the end of April this year, it tore the back of her leg off. She was in the hospital for quite a while, not sure if she is out yet.

I just showed that picture to my wife and she told me that she had just read about someone in a kayak who was attacked by a great white. The guy who was atttacked is sure that the shark "made a mistake", so no need to worry. The other way to not get attracted by sharks is to stay in unsalted water, such as Lake Huron. Shark Attack
