Hey wigglinrocks I see that ole Noah rockdunker came back sneaking back into the page and ate everything in the fridge and drank all the beer? Even went on a weekend torture excursion mini vacation. Didn't think of us. What does a cute, young wife have that we don't have? Never mind, I seem to remember now. Told you that lingerie ads were educational. Guess he's was busy. Seems to be using his suitcase for a rock tumbler. See where the baggage handler put rocks in a suitcase for ole Noah. Those baggage handlers aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer huh. Fat girls blouse on a rough road... wow see why we love that boy? What a descriptive writer! maybe YOU don't have to cut wood today. Got you some right here. Whole pocketful, SFRB large flat rate box headed your way. Now that Noah is going to be alone in Dakota he''ll get interested in rocks again. Like us. only less. Left the cute wife and his rocks here in the next town over all alone. Cant believe he left the rocks. Well now Noah can find more rocks, put them in LFRBs and send them to us. No more suitcases have to die. Better tell him how to pack them or the cardboard will go to heck like that nice 25 cent suitcase of his. Too bad someone smart like jakesrocks don't take pity on the boy and help him with the Dakota rocks he's finding and help him find more and send to us of course. Cleaning the Morrisonite with iron out. Also one piece of Flint Ridge chert. 1 day soak and its a bit cleaner. Dropped it back in before taking off with my bud for a road trip to Southern Colorado. Pagosa Springs. See all the tourist women at the Hot springs. Love Whale watching. Well better go, that Marshal guy is beating on the front door... again. Heading out the back. Cliff
You're not going to believe this. Some asshole at my work told me to get the dump trailer drive to the gravel yard(15 minutes away) and haul several loads of scoria to do some road repairs. So like 3 hours later I show back up with a few cool agates and some kind of quartz coated hard rock that I have not yet identified. The funny thing was sending me ha ha. Anyway the chic that runs the loader (lives at the gravel yard)and the pit owner were super cool and invited me back to pick rocks whenever. So I'm hoping I can get enough stuff done today to spend a few hours there tomorrow night digging through the 6" minus 4'' minus whatever it is and finally maybe find the agates that I've been looking for. I didn't have the good sense to add some grit to my under armor duffle bag. But I didn't really need to because halfway there and 10 shit head baggage handlers later there was plenty. I did however learn not to put awesome pieces of wood in a bag full of agate. So my plan to make a knife handle out of petrified wood is going to be a reality soon cause that's about all that is left of the damn thing. Suppose anyone learned not to send a rockhound to haul rocks for road repair . Shame about the wood . Some of the stuff you showed pics of?

We have a lot of the jasper conglomerates here also . They don't tumble very well , undercut between the jasp chunks . Sure are pretty wet . Understand the priorities on a weekend off . I did finally get to sit down with my rockhound buddy and go through a bunch of the leverites that I brought home. He liked a couple of the agates that I had but was especially fond of some jasper that I had found. It was the same stuff the Pogi dude from Idaho was all crazy about. I have a pile of it hoarded in some bushes and need to go back and see if any of the pieces resemble the stuff they liked best. HE suspected that one of the agates I had found could be a fire but it was hard to tell without polishing it. One of my good buddies thought it looked like fish eggs and fell in love with it so I let him take it. Funny how I keep thinking about talking him into bringing it back for some polishing. Anyway I'm gonna need to get to grinding and welding up some equipment soon. No way I'm buying one of these high dollar shafts with wheels on it. Hope you find a better way to transport the rock instead of letting the baggage handlers tumble it for ya . Much cheaper to build your own machines and build what works for you .

He probly has one of those big bags or pallets james was getting full of grit . Thinking he is grinnin seeing all the other trashed luggage . Get yer whale watchin in ? Wheres the rocks you was bringin back for me to share with you ? Heres part of the rocks. Need to start rolling them before Noah uses all that grit from the pallet. Heard he bought a whole big, new set of suitcases, tumblers. He is working on training the handlers how to tumble . Is that all the rocks ya got ?

Much cheaper to build your own machines and build what works for you . rockdunker Need to get some of that material to someone with some extra tumble capacity and maybe a saw to look it over. Might be nothing or might be really good. Patient now cause it takes a whle to get your material figured out. We all work and do what we can on our own time. Maybe break some and wet, take pictures. Any small ways you can keep learning what you got. If you bring some home next trip you can help me put together another tumbler and we can start rolling some. Don't give wigglinrocks all of your rocks . Half are mine.
Other half are mine . rockdunker better get more rocks .

I was a 8" branch with a big knot right in the middle. Very nice detailed grains. Looked like it was waiting to be whittled.

Other half are mine . rockdunker better get more rocks . I'll figure out that mail thing this week and get some shipped home. The stuff I have at the house is about to get put in a bucket and tossed on ebay I think. My back porch and all of the furniture is covered with rocks I don't want. I have two agates at the house right now that I want to cab out but I suppose I need to mess up some other rocks first. Hard t know where to start. One of the agates, the biggest one has the white crust all over it and needs cleaned up to see inside of it. It's big enough that I don't care that much about what's in it I just want to put it on a shelf in one big polished piece. I'll bring them out to you in Montrose soon and you can pick some out for Wiggly and I'll send them his way if he wants them. This rock thing is really messing up my fishing stuff. Come winter it'll be in the way of my shooting stuff.

Not sure if I sent a pic of that piece. I was a 8" branch with a big knot right in the middle. Very nice detailed grains. Looked like it was waiting to be whittled. Sounds like a nice piece for a specimen and not cutting material. Any color in it? Smart move Noah, sucking up to the gravel company. Good chance to collect a full set and have a chance to analyze it. Keep working on the stuff, collecting, id ing etc. The more you know the better off you'll be. Certainly some interesting stuff and a gravel pit is a good thing many times. Again be patient and keep learning about it and asking people about it. Cliff..
It's dark brown, no colors like that Arizona pet wood. I do find a lot of wood up here with nice little drusy crystals in them. No real color though just white. I need to spend more time with folks that are more experienced to speed up the process. I'm not the most patient when it comes to learning about things I tend to dive in and come out the other end bruised up and scabby.

Some of the crappiest lookers turn out to be the nicest inside . And can be the other way around also . Wiggly ? LOL

Yep Know how you feel Was impatient before did me little good.he therapy and satisfaction of figuring out things is big.Lot of people accomplish little in their lives. Smart people get a lot of things done and enjoy it along the way. Those chunks you said broke apart in the suitcase.. Do you have them How big are they? ! inch or better? Can you scratch them with a knife? Like to see a picture of them. Can you email them to me or post them here? Bet Jake rocks would be able to instantly id them. Smart and good man from the Dakotas. Don't get on much because hes feeling poorly but does him as much good as it will you. Lots of people here have experience to help id thse but they need to see them. Can you start a thread asking for identification help? Dale can help you. Wigglinrocks only charges half your rocks. You're doing fine for a ginzel. grin. Cliff The end of the piece split in half about 2.5" of material. Knot is still in good shape. I need to start a new photo hosting membership since Photobucket went the way they did. I don't want to sign into that account and agree to the terms of service. I think once that happens they take all of the pics that I've been putting on forums for the past 8 years and I don't have time for that. I can get the wife to send me a pic of the broken wood I sent you and wiggly a pm for phone numbers It's a heck of a lot easier to text than to email.

Box thing easy, Go to any post office, Pick up free flat rate boses and the correct label for them Use strong shipping tape at ALL corners If you have any heavier plastic like sheeting, cereal boxes, mud sacks, line the bottom and sides. Then addresss them to me and wigglinrocks and mail.
I pack the rocks in a plastic grain sack , the ones corn that I am not feeding deer with come in . Can cut the bag in half , tuck an open end and tape for the bottom . Tape bag shut when full in the box . Two bags out of one and we can get more rocks .

I'll round up some sand bags and get them loaded up tonight. Unless of course I spend the night at the gravel yard sifting through truck loads of Yellowstone river rock. It's raining right now so that may very well be where I'm at. This rain can sure help my tongue heal up.

Might have some montana agates in there. maybe not. Make sure you write Rich and mines addreses clearly. Know that wigglinrocks would be disappointed if the rocks didn't start flowing in. Sorry about your tongue being so sore. Maybe you shouldnt go home on weekends.. mine rocks there. Send to us. As you are collecting rock, should window the rock to see if its any good inside. A chip of the corner with a rock hammer will tell you if it a good one or leverite. Save you money for sending gravel to yourself.
There is a massive load of Montana agate in those rock piles. The good ones though, they seem a bit tougher to come by. I need to get a legit rock hammer. This welders slag hammer is a bit soft for what I've been chipping.

Like the snail or whatever fossil . The agate seems to be so common. Seems like every rock shop has Montana agate for $5 a pound for rough and IDK for the polished chips. $8 for slabs. I think I'm more interested in the jaspers. They are a bit tougher to find and identify but I'm getting the idea of checking them. My buddy has one on the saw right now getting ready to see how it comes out. The big agates with lots of character are pretty much all I look for now. The one I got tonight is big and loaded with cool stuff.

Very late to the party here. To late to say welcome to the RTH, but any ways after reading up on this thread. I hope you don't trade your fishing pole in for rocks, or maybe your rifle for a cabbing machine. Stranger things have happed, last week I watched my wife and kids pull in about 50 fish, at 11 mile res. And tarryaĺl res. All well I played with my rocks in the shade and my pole never got wet? If my kids where not there I could say I got my rocks off watching my wife fish.I wrapped some cabbs. And a piece of turquoise I freeformed, if your up for a ride next time you want to fish 11 mile res. Is hitting like crazy 9pm. To midnight and about 3am to sunrise on the south shore near the Sandy shore line, but don't be tempted by the rocks, look hard and you can find some strange pursues, have a few goons introduce them to my saw soon, ooh back to the fish, only thing I we catch on is (from the shore line) red/white/blue power bait orange/yellow power bait and the cheap knock off pink shrimp dough bait all with glitter, be sure to set your drag, and watch your pole them 20"+ will ripe your pole right into the res. If your not watching, really no action during the day be live me. During the day we head north to tarryall res. Small place but if you drive around to the side away from the highway they have water breaks around the dock. Walk out to the tips of them with fluorescent colored kastmasters med. To lg. Size and you will not be disappointed,

By the way I brine my fish season them set them out to dry a few or so hours slap them in the smoker with a mix of fruit woods,Apple, cherry, peach and 1 small piece of hickory, smoked to perfection,

Thanks for warm welcome, cooking and fishing tips ARH. I've been wanting to jig some HD ice lures in that 11 mile for some time now. Although I do smoke fish from time to time I try to only keep the caviar from trout and let the rest go to my neighbors. On that note since I have been working in North Dakota during the winter. It makes the concept of ice fishing seem like a bad idea. My buddy Brian owns Dynamic Lures and also loves to smoke meats. I got him started after kicking out a brisket for a party 5 years ago or so. I think he's better than I am now. When we go trout fishing it is usually with some new prototype bait that more than likely needs some tweaking to get right for the market and causes us some grief. My favorite thing to chase is Large Mouth Bass. They get me fired up when the weather is right. Topwater frogs 🐸, whopper ploppers, and just about anything from Pepper Jigs.
I suppose my rock habit is still not as bad, cause if there is a chopstick, paper clip, dental floss and some goldfish that's where you'll find me.
I've been playing on my neighbors lathe when I get time. He doesn't use it. I'll pull out some rod and pulleys soon and get some lapidary stuff built. I'm pretty sure one of these brake rotors is going to get put back to work soon.
