Hi All, Just bought a bunch of rough today, don't have a picture yet, but have some details. The piece I was looking at looked like Azurite, Malachite in some quartz, however, the outside looked waxy... I have several pieces of it and the outside is the same on all pieces, waxy... Creamy color with veins of green going through it... I've cut azurite before, but have never seen this before... As soon as I get a picture, I will post it. Just thought you might know from the details... Thanks, Deb

Trying to identify a rock without pics is like trying to to smell the color nine.

Trying to identify a rock without pics is like trying to to smell the color nine. That is perfect poetry. Well done!

Had to remind me , now my back hurts . Take a nap while you're waiting for that rock picture to show up. Love looking at new rocks. Can't wait to see her pictures I've handled my rough rocks so much I don't need to polish them. Neither one. Maybe need to mess with my wood for a while. I like burning.. Cant wait to die... Second choice for burning is always wood.

Here's a few more... How do you know if psilomelane is the crown of silver and does it have any value also, is malachite chatoyant? Thanks, Deb

That first group looks like something Sabre52 can help with. I have seen them before and could make a guess. 1- an owyhee jasper if old or a red falcon if new 2- looks like deschutes and 3 may be rocky butte jasper 2nd group 1 may be rocky butte 2- really nice looking chrysocolla malachite (can't tell if it is chatoyant by the picture) probably some gem silica 3 some very nicely figured psilomelane and yes probably crown of silver (by the pattern) and yes valuable now

First group: 1 is old Owyhee jasper, 2 is Biggs jasper, 3 is Rocky Butte jasper.
Second group as rockjunquie said: 1 is probably Rocky Butte, 2 I also agree is malachite and chrysocolla (or gem silica - and yes malachite can occasionally be chatoyant), 3 I'd want to see it faced to see whether the pattern is all-over, as I've seen some specimens from elsewhere with a bit of moire patterning.

I have a hard time distinguishing Deschutes from Biggs sometimes. In your opinion, what is the easiest way to determine which is which? I was thinking hers was a lower grade deschutes.
