Thanks for the after-fire survey. Yeah, those plastic fences don't last long even with little grass fires. They turn brittle after a few years in the sun, and cattle find they can break through. Up here where we get snow, the plows come along every winter and the thrown snow explodes them, too. Looks like some areas got cooked, and some got pinked

OMG Tommy! The area is almost unrecognizable. That burned even worse than I had heard from friends. With all that ash and retardant, I can imagine it would be pretty impossible to find jasper until after the rocks get washed off. Great report though I have to show my wife those pics.....Mel

That's some unusual Hornitos. I like it! You positive on the location?

Yeah, it looks like Hornitos all right but I've not found any quite like that. It is an extremely variable material though. I really like the red flowers in that center section. Found something kind of similar as float on the hillside near the Stinky Horse Hole pit but without all the white areas. Also found similar where the new house was built on top of the small orb vein but again not exactly like that one you have.....Mel

The top area above the white is really cracked up so I turned the rock around and I'm cutting it from the bottom up as it relates to that picture. The first couple of slices have been almost all agate with some small poppies. At some point I should be into the "flowers" area on a small slab by itself I'll post more photos if it pans out. captbob - not positive but some elements of it are distinctly hornitos. I bought it from the same seller I posted about a while back who was convinced that a piece of Hornitos he had was the rare and elusive poppy jasper from under the Golden Gate bridge. Good and trustworthy guy, local to me who I know in person, but motivated vendor nonetheless.

I love it, just never seen the fine white lines at towards the bottom or even the thicker black lines up top. That flower pattern ... very different!

I've seen that before and it wasn't Hornitos. Not about to disagree with Mr. Mel though. Gonna drive me crazy trying to remember where I've seen this...

This was about as good as it got with the flowers. If I could have gone one more cut they might have been isolated in the white but I couldn't - it's nubbed.
