At first I thought this was just pink and green Granite. Now not so sure. Sorry for the washed out photos. Colors are more intense than pictured. The red area is some type of quartz, as are the green accents. The area in photo 1 that shows a white quartz inclusion becomes the red quartz on the opposite side, shown in photo 2. When I enlarged photo 3, the green areas reminded me of a dark Peridot. Any thoughts? Thanks.

It does look like unakite. Orthoclase (pink), epidote (green) and quartz.

Thanks for the link. Do you know if it is found around Northern Lake Michigan? Glacial deposits could explain where it came form.

I'm sure all our gravel pits are the results of glacial deposits . Here is a piece I picked up a few weeks ago , just a guess 20 pounds ,

I find it in Lake Huron and Superior. I haven't done too much rock hunting in Lake Michigan, but I wouldn't be surprised to find it there.
Rich, that's the biggest piece of unakite I've ever seen. Usually it's baseball size or smaller when I find it.

Send it to Scott so he can make a sphere out of it. It really would make a beautiful sphere.

The one above is only about 4.5 by 2". Just realized I have a few more, similar size, in my rock gardens.

The one above is only about 4.5 by 2". Just realized I have a few more, similar size, in my rock gardens. That's the size I typically find. I love unakite. I have tumbled a bunch of it, I also make a lot of crossed that I tumble. The best unakite is the kind without speckled granite in it. The granite parts tumble like any other granite. The green (epidote) holds up the best. Darker reds seem to do better than the pinks and oranges.

Thanks for the tumbling advice. Some day I will be able to get back at it.

Here is the nicest one I found in rock garden today. Well, found in field a while ago. At least I think it is Unakite.
