I've purchased just one fossil. I had to, it was so pretty. It was a polished baculites with gold sutures. Not a fossil person. It's front and center on our display shelf.
Yours are pretty, too. Thanks for the show!

I'm wondering whether the colorless transparent pieces might be selenite. It occurs in several spots in the Great Basin.

I was thinking selenite too but didnt want to say until someone with your stature and experience led us. Wasn't sure of the area and all the different minerals that were there. I grow a little every time an older member helps the rest of us. Thank you..

The clear piece in particular seems too hard but i didn't actually scratch it, and it may be different material than the yellowish pieces. Will read up on selenite and try some basic tests to see if they might be, thanks for the suggestion.

All found in Thunder Basin Natl. Grassland, between Newcastle and Wright WY. tims you and Noah rockdunker have been finding interesting clinker lately. His is from western north Dakota. Also I am wondering if the agates you must be finding and he has been finding are similar. He has said that he is finding jaspelite too. I will try to post some pictures of his material and you might give some insight. A Montana look to this one but seems really far east. Seeing any of the Montanas there? Does your prairie agates seem similar? Rich @wigglingrocks is finding similar agates but no clinker futher east in Wisconsin . The clinker in the back of the truck look like yours?

Cliff, a lot of the material I pick through is mined on the Yellowstone in Sidney and trucked to my locations. Other stuff I get by looking for a decent bank to walk down in the Sidney area. The gravel yards around here say they have trouble getting road base and smaller gravel in the Williston section of the river. Glad you posted those pics I haven't figured a solution to the pic posting deal since photo bucket decided to capitalize on me. Any feedback is much appreciated from anyone on this area. I've found Seven Sisters island area to have exposed rock and can see the sand bars but I'm still working on the boat that will get me to them.

Calcite plates Tims..........I find the same things in central Montana, just picked up some if you watched my video in the fossil section... Dawn soap and a soft old tooth brush and warm water, cleans them up great! Keep them out of the sun after that...

Having claimed ND as my stomping grounds for 30 years,The western section of ND does have fine agates, they are Montana's carried over from floods off the Yellowstone, feeding into the little Missouri and etc... A few prairie agate of different species, but not much.... More petwood and jasper than most other material....Especially going south of Watford City,ND (since the road construction the past five years or so),should have opened up some new ground...

Sure are a wealth of info. Yep saw the beautiful baculites. You are why I am getting interested in fossils. On the picture thing. I am always too busy and not interested in prissy stuff as such but I went to Tommy and he set an idiot like me up on the Rockshow for this site. Not sure if it will work for you because you post in a lot of other venues and need the utube for vids. BYW Have looked at all your videos. Another thing is that Noah, rockdunker find yesterday was these. He's working in the patch inWestern North Dakota and is always out in the field. Must be a pumper or the like. Any words of wisdom of what he should have his eyes open for MIke? fossilman
tims Do you think that the material that Noah is finding looks similar to material from your area? Clinkers and jaspers? Any montanas in that area like Noah has been finding?
Heres a pict that I had uploaded to the Rockshow of some material that Noah has been finding. Took a caveman like me about 15 seconds to do it.

All found in Thunder Basin Natl. Grassland, between Newcastle and Wright WY. I've been wanting to check that place out. I've been doing a lot of rockhounding on the Pawnee grasslands here in northern CO and have been eyeing that huge grassland up north. It's huge though. Looking at the maps there are "mine activity areas" any idea what they are mining? Good finds on the rocks also!

I'm south of Watford on county road 30 near where it ties into 16. Working for a midstream company handling a flowback. Got called in a few hours early due to some miscalculations from a young engineer in another state 😆 Not worried though I'll take the call out pay and the OT. I've been keeping my eye on the road construction and such around here and I'm mostly finding stuff on the locations where material has been trucked in. Digging through these rocks and seeing things like what you have in your video with the jasper agate and such it get a bit confusing on what to pick and what to leave. Going home to Colorado and looking at the river rock near grand junction is a bit boring. I've found some jasper and not much else so far. Lots of sand stone and shale. I suppose it's probably more of a fossil hunt there

Quote" Any words of wisdom of what he should have his eyes open for MIke? fossilman "Quote... Anything that seems out of place.. Seems to me from his comments that he knows what he is doing... The trked in material does hold treasures for sure/for sure.... My Uncle found a fossil that way, scored $400.00 for it....So the chances are there!! Two thumbs up

A little goes a long ways when you have two growing opinions and double the ideas. Two TIMS.. What a scary thought !!
