Id say Cliff is Spot On! Is it really worth sitting in Jail Over? I retired From My Local Sheriffs Dept after 25 years and heard stories like this everyday. Id like to spend what time I have left beachcombing the shores of the Great Lakes and not getting 3 Hots and a Cot! Has to be a bad thing to even think about, let alone to do. The pinnacle of idiocy is to tell others to break the law. Where do these people learn this stuff? Google!!!

My most recent discovery of good Rough has been in front of a my favorite Beer Brewery about a mile away. There is an office building across the street that had a fine flower bed decades ago. Now all that is left of it is the awesome rocks that used to fill it up. Now a couple of times a week I go out for Craft Beer and Rocks.

Do you really want this to be visible to the entire internet-world? Good point. This would also be a criminal and stupid act to use this. Think twice anyone, before you attempt to commit fraud against the government.
The fraud would be aginst a show.

There is no law that only people with resale numbers can buy something, that's something wholesalers make up to keep the best prices out of sight of retail buyers. The cops aren't going to arrest someone for telling a fib and entering a show, that's just silly. I'm not saying to do this, and I wouldn't do it, but I can't see how it's illegal. Around here, you can call the cops about actual rip-offs, and they'll just say too bad, so sad, it's a civil court case... if it's a case at all. Arresting someone in this situation for trespass would never happen unless they refused to leave the show after being asked to do so by security.

Arresting someone in this situation for trespass would never happen unless they refused to leave the show after being asked to do so by security. That's somewhat correct. If the show is held in a state that levies sales taxes, then the process of grabbing a reseller number does show a good-faith effort to verify that someone is buying for resale (and thus no sales tax is due on purchases at that event). However, not every state levies a tax on raw materials, not every state has a sales tax, and not every state requires/issues reseller id registrations or numbers (mine doesn't except within certain cities), and they'll usually take any id number in that box. Some states, such as Oregon, that don't issue reseller id numbers do post a generic number on their Dept. of Commerce or Secretary of State websites. The folks at the shows don't check those numbers before letting you enter and shop, and this requirement is more about the show host making an effort to respect the local government's tax laws, and only secondarily deterring some of the general public from entering. In addition, some wholesalers at shows require a business name on the check if paying that way, some will take any credit card, but they'll all eagerly take your cash. Unless you are planning on buying big quantities (flats of minerals or slabs), I'm not sure the prices are all that much better at "seller-only" events. There are shows that visit most parts of the U.S. at least some time during the year (see the RocknGem magazine site for one partial listing for the U.S. and Canada) if you want to personally examine the material before buying. There are bargains at those shows, too.
