I got a chunk of this awhile back and finally got around to slabbing it, wow! It's gorgeous. Does anyone recognize it?

have you done hardness/scratch tests on it? Reminds me of some banded aventurine I had once.

Looks like Hewitt Canyon Marble from Az. If so, contains asbestos, take caution when grinding.

@shotgunner - does this look like the piece you gave me via AzRockGeek
Or was that the other way around... I think you guys said it was banded aventurine - or was that serpentine...
My CRS is flaring up today.Hahaha nevermind. I didn't see the post directly above.

Cool! Toxic marble :-) Will probably go into a plastic bag as a curiosity in my collection now, thanks for the id. Cool looking rock.

Tommy yours is serpentine from Young Az. I heard the site is collected out. The Hewitt Cyn stuff is called marble, I suspect it is a serpentine as well. The two site are in the same general mtn range, I have only seen the soft reds in timloco piece come from Hewitt Cyn. You never know, either way he has some nice slabs. Polish them up with Zam.

Tim You might have had a jasper from the SanJuans in your head when you thought jasper. Here's a hard, 7 or so, that I collected between Telluride and Rico. Looks a lot like your sample and the hard ride it did in a mountain stream. Will slab a couple and send to Rich @wigglnrocks
