I noticed several months ago that one of my Crazy Lace shapes still had the shape cutout marks made with a blue permanent marker. I went ahead and tumbled it through the Polish stage. To my surprise the polished shape still had some of the blue lines. To test this further I decided to completely color another Crazy Lace shape with the blue permanent marker and run it through the full cycle. Here's the result after the polish stage; DSC_0069 by Findrocks, on Flickr The material, although hard, must have a higher porosity than other material to allow the color to bleed down into the rock. I wouldn't sell this unless I labeled the piece as dyed. Henry

One of the big lapidary outfits, maybe Eloxite corp, used to offer an extensive line of dyed crazy lace stones. Most varieties take dye pretty well. One type, actually with the trade name "Dying Lace", takes dye super well and has been dyed to make some pretty awesome looking fake gem silica....Mel

Rob. Juggler had a thread a while back on removing marker lines Hank. Maybe that's what got you to looking? How did you weather the hurricane? Actually cared only about your buckets of agates grin. Be a spell before you get back to normal. Bet the rivers are gong to be great for hounding.

I would think you could put it into an Ultrasonic cleaner or even a quick dip in acetone or something would clean it out, but I like it with the color in it. I would have no problem representing it as "dyed" because the color accentuates the variations in the stone even more. It's a cool experiment. Thanks for sharing!

HankRocksGet some copper sulfate "root killer" at Lowe's or home depot only one carries it and I forget which. Make a saturated solution in water (~35%) and soak a cab in that. Let us know how that goes
