Common practice to install drain plug in outboard powered boat and fill it with water so it won't blow away.

They are concerned about increased strength when she goes from Cuba to Southern tip of Florida still. A romp over warm water w/little obstruction.

Looks like Donnie's Rocky Treasures hasn't been on here in a while. I hope she is ok and has gotten out of the Keys. Andrea

I named my ocean boat "Land Ho". Long since sold. Grandpa was a whaler, James when the still sea conspires an amour
and her sullen & aborted currents
breed tiny monsters....
best to all my land ho rock pals ! Ed truly...

Wife unit pestering about hurricane shutters which I do not believe are necessary. *sigh* Hot as heck out there today! Be 48 hours or more before one of us can say "I told you so." May lose this one, as being wrong won't be any good ... Should have told the wife you'd have had them done if she brought you some hotties assistants from the beach to help install them. Hoping for the best for all of you in the path. Dave

Suck it up, captbob , and get those hurricane shutters put up, pronto!
Better to be "just" wrong, than dead wrong.
ETA - a little music to put you in the mood!

above is one of my favorites and just to add some more related hard blowing Land Ho tunes * * Special note to rockjunquie Tela "Eye of the Hurricane" by the Translucent Blues Rock Group **Lyrics: Jim Caroll Music: Ray Manzarek Would you watch me in the hurricane? Would you shatter in the wind? Would you sand bag all your destiny? Would you set the pet bird free? Would you stroke the eyelid of the storm… Shut down Radar Skim on Vice Would you tape the “X”s on the window Let go Dive slow Lay with me? East Coast, got a hurricane West Coast, got the same High high wind, and the heavy rain… People got “X” marked/on their window panes Like Moses in Egypt and the blood stains Like Moses and Pharoah and the bloodstains Would you shrink in the hurricane? Would you scream in its force? Would the foam form a gyro? Would you worry what be lost? Would you cut the flower in the hurricane? Burn stem/ drop hem/ choose your dress? Would you strap the child to the swing? Take aim Feel tame On the wing Waitin’ for the eye of the hurricane… Looking for the eye of the hurricane… And another of my all time favorites & all of John Hyatt music whhaaaaaa A grin best to all my rock pals truly …

I think it will be captbob 's w.u. uttering those words, "I told you so," lol.
ETA -
Dead calm in the eye, once you are through the wall. I have heard that some folks have lost their lives, after going out in the storm when the first wall passed over, and the eye is directly over them. After the calm, the back side gits them.....
Or so I am told. California does not have anything to compare it to. We only get remnants of tropical storms.

Bob WILL be putting the shutters on now. Track has changed, he has a bullseye painted on his forehead. Naples, Fort Lauderdale and his Tampa area.
So now the faster east side of the eye rams the west coast.
Assuming hurricane is traveling at 15 MPH:
Keep in mind, you add 15 MPH eye travel speed to the rotational speed for the east side of the eye.
You subtract 15 MPH from the rotation speed for the west side of the eye.
Those are the relative speeds to ground which determines total wind force.
They just predicted it going back up to Cat 5 from Cuba to Florida.

She Who Must Be Obeyed may have won this one. If this new track holds. Ain't saying nuttin' 'til it gets here. Forecast to come MUCH closer now. She has the damn shutters up and I'm sweating like a pig. Shower and cold chilly one(s) in order. FIFTY bucks she doesn't say thank you and I won't get any favors outta this. Did mention that it would have gone much faster if she had picked up a couple "assistants" for me. She pointed at the door and said for me to get back out there.
