We found these in Northern WI near Lake Superior but in the woods rather than on the beach. Basically we just thought they were neat and thought it would be fun to see if we could ID them. I've worked on it but I am just uncertain! 1 flic.kr/p/XgHbpi2 flic.kr/p/YdSNGJ3 flic.kr/p/YfwpyU3 flic.kr/p/YdW3PA3 flic.kr/p/YdW3xU4 flic.kr/p/Yi4UGi and this one I found today actually under my deck (south central WI) sitting next to an arrowhead! Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning from you all! I've been lurking for a few days trying to figure it out on my own!

They all appear to be chalcedony of some sort. Some have the look of silicified sea critters(coral etc), but I'm still figuring all that stuff out and am definitely no expert in that area.

Great scores! Nice color in some of those. I think they are agates, but not too sure. There's a lot of folks here from your area. Maybe they'll see the post. Drummond Island Rocks can you help pointing out some fellow lakers.

Hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of posting the pics for you. Instead of using the "share" tab, use the BB Code tab. Copy that code and paste it directly into your post. I also added numbers, so folks can speak to a specific pic if necessary. Dave 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

1 and 2 my guess would be agates, 3 and 4 brecciated jasper looks to be fully healed. Looks like chalcedony but kind of wet in the pictures nothing dry. Who else want to hazard a guess? 6 is agatey.. nice word huh? Just made it up myself.. Sure can see where the glacier rubbed 4 hard against even harder materials. Maybe Chuck, Fernie, Rich or Rob can see a fossil in the brecciated looking one.

Thank you all! I was trying to get the bb code to work but it was giving me a hard time so I went for the safe bet of links! Seems so far I didn't do half bad with my guesses. 3,4, and 5 are all the same just different sides. Something about that one that I just really love! There are some other really neat looking finds from vacation but I haven't washed the red clay off of them yet to really get a good look. Here is one more, this is the other halfs favorite. 0901171049a by Tiffani Brilliott, on Flickr

1 and 2 look to be either iron stained quartz or possibly jasp/agate . 3-5 look like a quartz blob that formed in an irregular shaped cavity . 6 looks to be a jasp/agate . Hard to tell by the pics though .

The last one, the dark one came from either bayfield or Washburn. We stopped all over to trout fish and tried to pick something up that looked fun in each spot we stopped.

Thank you all! I was trying to get the bb code to work but it was giving me a hard time so I went for the safe bet of links! Looks like you have it figured out. If you don't want all of the additional text, and you only want the photo to show, you need to take another step or two. When you paste your code directly into your post (don't use the "insert image" button), your code will look like this: [url=https://flic.kr/p/YdW3tq][img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4367/36902321326_c1c2284d57.jpg[/img][/url] [url=https://flic.kr/p/YdW3tq]0901171049a[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/154646386@N06/]tumbledore84[/url], on Flickr After you paste that, eliminate any text after the first [/url] that you see. In the case above that first [/url] is at the end of the first line. This will still allow your photo to be clickable so folks can get to the photo in Flickr and zoom in if need be, but the extra text will be gone. If you don't care about the photo itself being hyperlinked, simply keep the stuff inside the IMG text: [img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4367/36902321326_c1c2284d57.jpg[/img] That will just leave you with a non clickable photo that will look like this in your post: Hope that helps. Dave

Yep Think that Rich, sometimes Dale and always wigglinrocks just won the chicken.. Good word for that pretty lil rock Rich. Ever cut one of those Rich? Does it look as healed as it looks. Seems to be just oozing chalcedony.

Going out on a limb, catch me if I fall. 1. Looks like a mix of quartz and jasper. 2. Iron stained Quartz? 3. More mineral staining. Possible fossil related. 4+5. Similar to 3. 5 appears to have more mineral content. Are any of these magnetic? 6. Shape is interesting. Yes, it does look like bubblegum. 7. Love the "stained glass" effect on one side and the lace on the other. A quartz conglomerate.
My In-laws lived in Washburn, so I was there often. Love the area and all it had to offer.

Some are real glassy on the surface and others are have a rough grainy feel . The good glassy ones take a real nice polish . Variety of colors also , red almost mossy looking , green , and the ugly brown ones . Even the brown ones look kinda cool .

He's from Chippewa, I'm from Baraboo. We lived in Chippewa a few years and then bought our home somewhat near the Dells (far enough away to avoid tourist season). Love this State and the diversity it offers! You're all very helpful, thank you for taking the time to lead a newbie in the right direction. So many of the different things look just similar enough to make it real confusing when you have no clue!

By the way , I wasn't criticizing your photos , a rock in hand is sometimes easier to id than a photo . I know all about the Dells tourist season , stayed there for a couple summers while working construction . Motel on the far east end of town so I could escape down hwy 16

I've got thick skin anyway so it wouldn't of bothered me even if you said the photos were garbage haha. Growing up in Baraboo I always took waitressing jobs in the dells for the summer months. Good money but trying to get to work on time was a nightmare!
