Hi Everyone I was wondering if you could use a dishwasher on a Nat. Geo. barrel and lid between grades of sand to make sure that every last grain of grit is out? Thanks

I don't know, but I wouldn't want any grit going through my dish washer. A good rinsing should do the trick.

Good point! Dishwashers have pipes. Duh... Thanks

It's not the pipes, it's the moving parts that I'd be worried about. You don't want grit in those moving parts.

Scrub your rocks off good with a small hand scrub brush and rinse well. First however, make sure that your rocks are ready to graduate to the next stage. The coarse, first stage, is the only stage that will shape and remove the rough places. The following steps only remove the scratches from the grit of the stage preceding.

I have great results by just tumbling the rocks in a barrel full of plain water for 30 minutes to an hour between stages.

I'm new to this but I just use a little Dawn in a bucket and a rag to clean the barrel/lid. After hosing off the rocks, I run them for a few hours with just a couple of TBSP of Borax. I'm using a Lotrone 3A, 3 lb barrel. I do add plastic pellets to later stages.
