I fee very fortunate to be able to collect world-class material so close to home. The following Cedar City agate was about 10 mins from home. The Holt Canyon jasp/agate & plume agates are found about an hour away. I cut my best material double-sided & put it on a cord. It's a pretty simple way to make the stone the star. I was going through a bucket in my yard & found a big chunk of Holt Canyon jasp/agate that I don't remember finding, well vaguely. It's one of the best pieces of Holt material I've seen. It's a 15lb chunk that I must have dug, because that size isn't lying around on the surface. I rarely dig; I mostly surface collect. It's relatively fracture free. Most Holt material is fracture city. The outer edges have the best plumes & colors. I'll be cutting this chunk for years! Cedar City dendritic agate Cedar City agate with a little of what we call Fingerprint agate on the tip. Bummer that this piece has some obvious fractures. This is the cream of the crop for Cedar Cosmo agate. The blobs are very 3-Dimensional. More translucent Cedar City Cosmo agate. This one has four surfaces & is shaped kind of like an Italian Horn from the 70's. A sweet piece of Holt Canyon jasp/agate. This Holt Canyon jasp/agate has awesome plumes & even a bit of green. I'm keeping this one! From the big chunk. More Holt Canyon plumes. From the big chunk. More Holt Canyon plumes. From the big chunk. More Holt Canyon plumes. From the big chunk. Holt Canyon jasper from a small chip. Holt Canyon Bloody Broccoli plume jasper. Hey I can make up my own names, right? From a small piece that yielded a few cabs. Thanks for looking. Lynn

So nice to walk out the door and find stuff like that. Can see why you present them on a cord. Very elegant.

Boy Lynn, those Holt Canyon cabs are awesome, especially the red plume one. Ceder City agate must be about the same as Brianhead except less fractured because it sure looks like stuff I have from up there. Ours is much more fractured though probably because of all the freezing. Cept of course we gave all the types different names *L*. We called the black dendritic types Mosquito Agate and the Cosmos agate, Cloud Agate. Common names huh? *L*.....Mel

Wow, that Holt canyon stuff is beautiful! It reminds me of stuff I've found in the Cady Mountains.

Lynn, Just love the Holt Canyon, red jasper with chalcedony healing. I have seen many of your great cabs finished in more sophisticated style but the simple drilled hole with the cord really does put the stone front and center. Twice the work doing both sides but surely does it for me. What type of cord is that you are using? Maybe catch you around Denver if you are there at the show Wednesday or Thursday. If not maybe cross your path in Moab. Be safe, Cliff Bet Rich, sometimes Dale and always wigglinrocks is going to like your approach too.

Not sure how the rest of the days will go. Siezure later, epileptic! Lynn

coloradocliff, I always have good intentions of taking pictures to share with the homebound masses, but I end up just drooling & buying & forget to click away. Maybe I'll do better this time. Lynn

Wowzers, what a show. drooling
That Holt Canyon plume gives the best Bloody Basin AZ a run for it's money. I dug up a few pieces that I'm looking forward to cutting one day - but the odds of me having found anything like those plumes is about slim and slimmer.

Too hard to fill the small ones. BTW, I'm taking Fri Sep 22nd off work. melhill1659 and her sister will be here from Mississippi. We will be hounding at Holt Canyon if anyone wants to join us. Lynn

Lynn I've barely started cutting my 360lbs from my last Utah trip LOL but plan on sending home even more this trip!! We are so excited. So... we're going hunting Friday? Not Saturday? Either is fine with us just have to plan accordingly.
