I decided to try Johnsons Brothers for an 80 grit wheel. What could go wrong with an 80 grit hard wheel? Well, it isn't wide enough.
I put it on, put Gene back together and the wheels slip. They literally would spin on the shaft.
There is a 5mm difference between the DP and JB wheels at the center. The JB is thinner.
DH went and got some washers, actually bushings, because the Gene nut on the left side will not crank down all the way against the wheel. So, we put one on the outside against the 80 wheel and one on the inside against the 220 wheel. I turned on Gene used him for about a minute and then the left wheels started backing out. The shaft was trying to spin a hole through the cover! OK, took off one of the washers. A little better, but the 220 wheel is still loose. Can't seem to tighten it down all the way.
When I go to remove the right hand spin on lap, I have to hold the left wheels, when I do everything wants to come unscrewed.
What am I missing? I feel like I am not doing something obvious. We had a helluva time with this. I thought we did it right. I was able to get 4 cabs done, but when it starts and stops, you can hear that 220 slipping. Actually, the right wheels are a little loose, too.
Any help or thoughts appreciated.
Also, anyone else run into this with a Johnsons Bro wheel? I had been thinking of maybe getting more from them..... not now.

I would return it to them if you can't get it to Work

That sucks. I don't use a Genie but I went to the manual and in the parts list they have spacers from 1/4" through 1 3/8" by 1/4" increments until you get to 1". In my minds eye in order to center the wheel you need a spacer 2.5mm(.2") larger on each side of the wheel. Unfortunately, we are mixing metric and imperial measurements so you may have to grind a 1/4" over sized spacer down by .05" what ever length you use. You mentioned that the other side was a little lose too, is it possible that the I.D. of your spacers are worn, maybe you need to replace those they should be a tight fit almost a press fit on the shaft.

Sounds like a new spacer or 2 from DP and turning one down on a lathe would be my answer. Or maybe make one from scratch from hard nylon, uhmw or maybe pvc. Either way my list of possible J Bros purchases is getting smaller all the time.
