Eeek!
My 3000 grit Nova wheel made a "rat-a-tat" sound for two seconds and the belt separated itself from the spongy backing. And it won't stay in place.
Glad I had an old 14000 wheel in a box to use until I get a new wheel!!
Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Wow! Glad you didn't get slapped in the face with that! That hasn't happened to me, thank goodness.
I haven't been having very good luck with wheels lately. But, at least none have come apart.
Is there any way to glue it back?

Only time I ever saw a mangled nova was on a friends machine after he imbibed and did some CWI...

I had a period of time where every 8" Nova I bought would delaminate long before the life of the belt should have been done. I tried gluing them back but messed up the balance of belt to foam and never worked right again. It got so annoying that I switched to 6" belts a couple years ago and have never looked back.

I don't know who remembers my trouble with a 600 wheel, but DP messed up, so they had to send me a new one. Guess what? That one blows, too. It's almost dead. I know damn good and well that it ain't me. Seriously. Everytime I use it STILL it sheds resin like a dog. It colors my water each time I use it. I'm almost down to the backing in what 2 months or so? I'm not buying another DP nova. I'm gonna try the Johnson Bro or get mine refinished. This is ridiculous. I wasn't going to mention it because I'm sure some folks think it has to be me. Well, I don't care cause I know it isn't. DP's quality has gone down hill.

If anyone's thinking about using Johnson Bros. Super Novas, there's something that should be mentioned. The sponge rubber backing seems to be much stiffer than DP's Novas. If you count on a soft backing to help contour cabs, especially high domes, you may be disappointed with them. I've used only their 1200 and 8K wheels so far and am very pleased with their performance. But I prefer stiffer wheels at that stage of sanding.

Thanks, gemfeller! The last DP 600 I got is VERY stiff. I think I would be able to use the Johnson wheels. I used that wheel today to ONLY grind some starbond and again the water was full of the brown resin. I'd call DP, but this was already a replacement wheel. I have a couple old sets, so I think I will send some in for resurfacing.

Friends don't let friends buy from Johnson Bros There are only two lapidary related sellers that I will NEVER in a thousand years do business with again, J.bros is one of them.

Update! Diamond Pacific is sending a replacement. Back to work!! Right on! recent quality problems aside, DP is easy to communicate with and they stand behind their products.

I thought we were friends. Tell me why before I spend more money. I got pretty good service from them when I called for my 80 grit. Granted he was Indian and hard to understand.

Tommy , sorry you had that problem with Johnson Bros. I'm not trying to defend them but can only testify to my own experiences which in 3 transactions has been good. Yes, the service is a little slow but otherwise I've been happy. I like DP products too but like everyone I like to save money when possible. As for the SuperNova wheels, I bought 1200 and 8K 6-inchers and have used them for about 7-8 months. I cut a lot of cabs, far more than I ever post here, and so far they're holding up just fine. As I mentioned in another post the backing is stiffer than DP Novas but otherwise I find them comparable, at least in wear and practical use. But mileage on that may vary with other users. I'm going to try their resurfacing service soon and will try to remember to post results as soon as I've had a chance to put the resurfaced wheels through their paces. I know I could do it myself but there's a limit to how much DIY stuff I want to fiddle with.
