I was going through some buckets and found this. Any idea what it is? It's very heavy for its size and the shiny areas are purple. Thanks, Andrea

Hmmm.... purple? I wonder what would weather out purple? Maybe hematite? Wouldn't you die if it was a big hunk of covellite? I don't think it is, but covellite is pretty damn heavy.

Plus 1 on bornite. Peacock Copper. My bornite specimens are more purple but they do oxidize and darken. A fresh face.. A chip off it will tell us a lot. We always find bornite in Colorado and a lot of times in conjunction with galena in many of our old gold mine tailings piles.

Or it could be purpurite. Which is cabable, but the purple needs to be brought out with mild acid afterwards.
