Anyone know where to get raw Baltic amber for cheap? I'm really interested in making my own jewelry starting from the beginning. I'm sure it's gotta be possible to get the raw material, Smith it down and put my own holes in it to make beads... (How do you put a hole in amber without breaking it?) Anyone do this?

Ebay. They have a lot of it for cheap There is a reason for that. A LOT of it is fake! Don't be buying amber from China. Not many rocks out there as easy to produce fakes of as amber. You really need to have it in hand ( and know what you are looking at!) to buy or go with a VERY trusted seller. Caveat emptor

I don't mean to demean you in any way, but many of your first posts have to deal with starting out with tumbling. I'd recommend that you get into the tumbling process, see what works, and then go from there. I'm beginning to think that you're looking to bite off more than you can chew. Take baby steps. You'll be happier in the long run. Good luck.

Oh, and if the "amber" has a bug or lizard or some other small critter in it... bet your house that it's fake.

The Amber will float more than tumble from stuff I've been told. captbob true about eBay. There is a seller who sells Chiapas Amber (Mexico) and Dominican Amber that's the real deal but it's about $1.50/gram and up.
