Light tent pictures. There's a hurricane off the coast. I won't be out for pictures for a few days. I got some gorilla tape and some different starbonds and nails to try dopping next time I cab. Gotta extend my cabbing season. I am addicted to that 50k diamond. I'm gonna get some 100k, too. This is actually nice in person. Not so nice in photo. This was the one that was sent to me by accident. They never wanted it back. My first carnelian. What a pain to polish! A decent bone- also better in person. A petrified coral with nice color and cute little polyps. This was from Tommy in the RTH fundraiser box. A big willow creek. I don't know why that bruno caramel is there. In person it is more of a mauve color. Vistaite from a gorgeous slab I picked up. A mystery copper complex. This was from Rockhobbit's sale. Very hard and took a liquid polish. This is from a super cool slab. A little pattern ground out, but I think it's awesome- esp in person. It has a very high dome and liquid polish. I think it is some kind of marble, but the bottom black was very hard. I'm thinking this is a US moss. Looks like celery green. Really big ruby crystal in kyanite. In person it has a schiller effect. The picture does this no justice. No undercutting and the ruby polished. I'm getting it down. Now I need some more good rough! I never saw Puddinstone before I came here and saw Chuck's. I fell in love. I really like it. My daughter came over to visit. She sat down and started this, I finished it. It was her first time at the the wheel and after 2 she lost her enthusiasm. Fabulous Aussie rhodonite. Super polish. You can see reflections in the light tent in the black part. Yes, it is that pink. Shattuckite with malachite and hematite in the middle. Another bone- also better in the hand. This is really large. That's it for now.

Really nice cabs.
For whatever reason some materials (Quartz) doesn't polish all that easily with diamond, facetors usually fall back to Cerium or Tin Oxide when polishing Quartz. Maybe thats the case with your Carnelian too.
You got a super polish on that Australian Rhodonite, thats one that is quite difficult with oxide polishes. You can get an even deeper pink than your stone.

That mystery complex is compelling.

I'll be adding more polishes as I go. Yes, I have some very pink rhodonite. This color fascinates me, though. It reminds me of a super saturated queen conch pink bustamite. Love it! I did get the carnelian to polish, but it took what seemed like longer than it should have taken.

A bunch of killer cabs. Hard to pick favorites but the Shattuckite with malachite and hematite and the polyp one from Tommy are at the top of my list.
How far are you going with the nova wheels now? 3000, 8000 or 14,000? Did you end up going to leather or canvas for your diamond paste?

Chuck Hi Chuck-- I am using a 220 nova, the usual 3 right hand wheels plus 14k spin on the right and 50k on felt. I am ordering 100k and a smooth leather spin on wheel. I have a spin on 8k, but I rarely use it. I can't believe the difference between the 50k spin on Nova and the paste. It's night and day.

I am not sure I ever figured out the proper amount of paste to use. A little bit of a science when it comes to when to add more, how to apply it (pattern) and when to use diamond extenders. Chuck

Chuck I don't know if I am doing it right or wrong, but it's working. On my felt, I spray applied mineral oil. I also keep some in a little spray bottle for adding a little now and again. I apply the paste in lines like I was cutting a pie. I then smear the lines around with my finger. When it doesn't seem to be cutting as well, I add a few dots. You can tell if you have too much. If the slurry ends up on the sides of your stone, you probably have too much. I also have a spray bottle of water I use on the wheel when I am polishing. Seems to help keep the temp down. I don't use extenders. I am assuming that the mineral oil does the same thing.

Wow what a set! I still cannot believe how well your ruby in fuchsite cabs turn out, but I gotta say I really like the coral and the vistaite best. You just don't see vistaite much these days at all and especially of that quality.....Mel

It has really great colors.

It's the threaded lap that goes on the end of a Genie or DP cabber.
