Should I go ahead and award myself the "virtually farthest traveled" award? I think I deserve a nice RTH t-shirt... Can anyone beat 2407 miles?
I look good in black I think... has that "slimming" effect.

Thanks for the mention, hafta see how ma's back recovery goes, certainly on the list. I do have a fair amount of excavator operating experience, no use fiddling w/hoe, go big.. Between you and toiv0 I think we may have it covered. 💪😎

I'm open to the idea but won't be able to commit until closer to time and see how my wife's health issues are doing.
But seeing as how you're talking about doing this meetup the week of the fourth I would strongly suggest that those who can commit to go make plans on where to stay and get reservations soon. That area of Ohio hasn't exactly overbuilt on motels if you know what I mean.
Three years ago I went to a retired rock dealer's living estate sale just southwest of the Flint Ridge area on graduation weekend in late May. Like to have never found a room vacancy. Finally found the last room available at a rural vintage Taj Matel complete with multiple dead flies in the window seal and on and in the vents of the A/C unit which was mounted underneath the window (plus the A/C didn't work properly), there was mildew on the patch-worked walls and ceiling, had roadside trash dump decor (not kidding the lamps, "artwork" and furniture all appeared as if they may have literally been gleaned from a trash pile in the ditch in front of some old estate being cleaned out. The sheets were so stained and dingy that for only the second time in my life (hundreds of motel stays) I slept in my cloths on top of the bed covers. Oh yeah and I almost forgot, the door wouldn't lock properly because the frame was damaged from where someone had kicked in the door. And how much did this little third world-ish charmer set me back? Only $110 for the night. So plan ahead and book fast if you can folks!
Would be nice if maybe a campground with cabins that haven't been booked up yet could be found in the Flint Ridge area.

I "may" be able to get a backhoe arranged for. But that would be my only contribution as I'm booked for that weekend. I'll let you know in a couple daYs.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure there is only one person that is allowed to use power equipment on the property...just sent him a text and he's working at his regular job now...will probably get back to me tonight.

Sorry kiddo, don't see that happening. Over 1000 miles driving each way during one of the worst weeks of the summer to travel to a location that will no doubt be crowded with summer wannabe rockhounds and to collect a single type of rock - nope, don't see it happening. Meeting some of the folks here would be fun, but the timing (4th of July weekend) and lack of variety at the destination don't make such a 2000+ mile round trip appealing to me. Long way to go for a kegger and cook out, and I wouldn't plan such a trip just based on someone else's schedule. That location might be a fun leg of a trip that could include stopping in Kentucky to hunt agates & geodes and hitting other promising rock sites along the way there and back. Bettin' there are lots of interesting rocks between Florida and Ohio - and members here to show us their local honey holes. Gotta be more than a few milk crates of a common rock at the end of the rainbow. Come kidnap me sometime when it's not the 4th of July week and we'll hound up some rocks! STILL waiting on your Utah trip report

captbob, All of that I Understand. I will reserve the right to Kidnap you on a later date. BTW I literally spent hours organizing all the photos in the order they should go, for that Report! Plus going on 3 days of slabbing different ones to show you guys some of the insides. Promise I’m getting closer!!

Elizabeths dad had a farm not too far from there. He's in a retirement community now. Maybe something can be worked out if her new job will give her enough time off.

Should I go ahead and award myself the "virtually farthest traveled" award? I think I deserve a nice RTH t-shirt... Can anyone beat 2407 miles? I look good in black I think... has that "slimming" effect. we may be traveling farther...but by plane. 😊

Started wondering if Scott had you tied to the bed post (and you liked it so much you stayed).

Yes, I'm a cheap ass rockhound who will go out of his way to avoid paying for a room.

I would like to add that it is better to lock in a date sooner rather than later, and that it would be a good idea to get at least a week from a major holiday.
