This is for a friend and customer of mine on Etsy. I do not have the slab with me in person - she sent me these pictures and said the slab was marked "colorado rose." Anyone recognize it? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that RoseBud Jasper/Rosebud Agate/ Rose Rock came from the Layton Ranch just inside Oklahoma from the Colorado/ New Mexico/Oklahoma three corners area. Old material and I haven't seen new stuff from there in years. To me, more of a rhyolite type material than a true agate or jasper. Point of info. Some maps I have show it as in New Mexico, some in Oklahoma. Think the ranch itself may be right on the border..Mel

Susan, that could very well be it. Since I did not receive the rough (two slabs only), I have no idea what the exterior looked like. What Mel Sabre52 said, seems more like a rhyolite than an agate or jasper. Jean

The exterior is usually kind of pale and crusty looking. All I've had is vein material, not nodules and the greenish matrix that contains the red inclusions varies from light to dark greenish. Hardness/porosity seems to vary. Some is quite silicated and takes a nice polish and some just a high satin finish. I've seen some very pretty stones made of it but these days it only seems to show up in old collections...Mel

I've got 2 pieces from accidentalrockhound dopped up for my next cabbing day. I'll post about them. One is more agatey for sure and one is more jaspery/rhyolity. He says they are the same material, though. I can't wait to cab them and have a look see.
