I'm praying none of our members suffer any loss in all the fires. Well, I really hope NO ONE does, but I saw the news and lots of people are wiped out. My heart goes out to all of those people.
Are we all accounted for? I hope so. We have so many CA members.

Good here, too. Lots of smoke everywhere. Can’t see surrounding hills.

Good here. Protected by a vast sea of concrete.

The dry desert winds are currently fanning the flames. If the winds reverse, and they may, the ocean will give flame cooling humidity and push the fires back towards already burned area. Plus, those 15 miles are full of concrete and residential housing. Not much fuel comparatively.

I felt a small earthquake about 5:49pm today. Preliminary usgs estimated 4.1. Felt right under where I was sitting.

Can be from a lot of things. Backfire from a vehicle, someone playing with matches, or burning trash, campfires, someone throwing a cigarette out the window, a spark from tools, etc. We have had fires here from people target shooting and the bullets sparking on rocks. The said they think some of the secondary fires were from embers from the primary fire being carried by the high winds.

Fires, earthquakes and a goofball governor. I don't know how you guys do it. The first two are nearly meaningless for 99.9% of the population. The last is, I'm learning, a bunch of poo that really has nearly zero effect on my daily life.

The said they think some of the secondary fires were from embers from the primary fire being carried by the high winds. I have not heard anything related to cause(s) of the different fires. I've kind of been out of the loop, and I haven't gone searching for the info. That said, vegasjames hit on alot of the more frequent wildland fire causes. High winds can also cause problems with electrical lines being downed also. One note about cigarettes, however, is that they typically get blamed (IMHO) for more fires than they actually cause. Conditions have to be right humidity wise, and I hadn't seen numbers (in Santa Rosa specifically) that would support a cigarette caused fire. Then again, some of he humidity numbers I saw were a couple days into the fire. Of course, as @shotgunner mentioned, the fire(s) could have intentionally set. If I was a betting man, they probably started working on the scene investigation as soon as the fire burned out of the area of origin. Most investigative personnel don't have suppression duties, so they wouldn't be pulling staff away from actually working on the fire. Even if it wasn't safe to go into the scene right away, the investigative branch was probably already working on gathering witness info as early as possible. Dave
