Get tired of bags leaking and cardboard boxes puking out. Bought 4 dozen of these HD airplane storage rated canisters at scrap yard. Had an old semitrailer plumb full of them. They have been siting in the woods at my place for 3 years. Heavy suckers. They must be 2 gallon. Holds 12 pounds of abrasive. Etched the grade with a grinder so description won't go anywhere for 50 years. 2" bung allows long measuring scoop.

I'm guessing those will hold up better than my Dollar Store Tupperware containers. Still trying to find an industrial scrap yard around here. Seems to be some good finds there.

Currently I'm using mason jars. They work, but only hold 3 or maybe 4 pounds of grit each.

Those cans had been in boxes in a road trailer for 20 years. Walked past them dozens of times. Wife utilized them with local labor.

Saw a pic of an orangutan in there, I believe, at one time.

Yup, I knew I had seen it. My you have eagle eyes. Or is that the Grinch ? I have no idea. Her Grandaddy collected the weirdest objects. Now she does and hoards them. 40 foot oversea container, 600 sqft barn and this room. At least she makes things out of them in this room. One of these days when she is out of town I'm calling a moving company, well, if I wasn't so spineless I would.

I use the 4.5 gallon flip-top cat litter containers for bulk grit storage and the mixed nut/cashew/peanut large squarish containers for daily use grit. The Cat litter buckets easily hold 50 to 60 pounds and the plastic mixed nut containers about 5 to 6 pounds which also have a nice 4+ inch round lid for getting my hand into.

Henry The problem I have with plastic Henry. I store and tumble in a greenhouse and the nuclear sun radiation in Georgia dry rots 5 gallon buckets in about 10 minutes. Yes exaggerating, but still fast. I have some abrasives that have been moved to 3 newer 5 gallon buckets as they have been around like 7 years. Out of the sun is not so much an issue. And the label falls off grrrrr.

Well at least we don't have a sun issue here in Texas!! .....Mine are all indoors in cabinet or under workbench so no issues with sun.

Especially in that Texas radiation. Thought Georgia was hot. The greenhouse does allow mess on gravel floor and judicious water supply. Space. Cozy in cold season. Cold season starting and tumblers are all gettin it on after 5 month lay off.

If anyone knows someone in the food service industry, that's a good source for (free) plastic buckets of various sizes, from quart to 5 gallon, with sturdy handles and easy to open lids. My wife cooks at a catering company, so I have quite a selection.

Yep. But they smell like pickles for a long time. I prefer the 2 gallon potato salad buckets.

The three gallon buckets from the donut shop are the best! Strong buckets with lids, and cleaned out to boot for a buck and a half. Even cleaned, they smell wonderfully like diced apples, chocolate and raspberry filling, etc. So much better than pickles, lol. And a three gallon bucket full of prospecting dirt is so much easier to lift (by this senior citizen) than a full 5 gallon bucket. Why, it weighs 3/5 as much!
Over the summer, I bought 50 lbs of 30 grit SiC from Kingsley North, it fits into a five gallon bucket.

Good to know how much grit fits in the 5g buckets. I plan on ordering in bulk as soon as I start to get low.
