ETA - I've got a pic of my mom from about the time you were out rock hunting with your first wife. Times were simpler then.
I hear mom was a pretty good shot, lol. Photo taken around 1953, near White Sands, NM, where my parents met. Dad was stationed there for two years while in the army. I don't think they were into rock hounding, though. Jean
That's just a great photo. I love it. Dave

Great new images coming out. Love it. In my 40s I went to college nights for four years and mostly studied photography. While there I contacted some of the people in the family and asked them to send old photo they had so I could copy them. I made six copies of each one. Two for my kids and four for my nephews. Six times about 40 photos came to about 47,000 hand printed photos time wise. Today it would be 240 photos in one afternoon and most of that time would be setting up and tearing down. Dad's family of one daughter and six sons. Dad on the left. Dad on his Indian. Bragged about having the fastest motor in the area. Lost all my military photos (long story) so I am adding in one of an uncle. Uncle John, dad's brother, flew bombers out of England during WWII John Grandma and grandpa on dad's side fiftieth anniversary. 50th Mom and four of her eight brothers. No sisters. Mom and 4 Three of mom's brothers. 3 brothers Mom's aunt and uncle came to visit. Air travel in the good old days. air travel Grandma and sister, mom's side My family. Wife 1, me and two children on floor far right. I have one more installment. I will get it done eventually. One of many projects going on Jim

wampidytoo Jim, you must be the family historian. Great pictures. You're lucky to have them. I hope you are making sure the kids and grandparents have copies. Make sure you mark them, too. I have a scrapbook from my namesake grandmother, but nothing is labeled. She died when my dad was 9. It would be nice to know more about her family. Her dad died young, too. He was the first officer to be shot in the line of duty in Wisconsin 1912.

I was lucky because many were labeled and after I finished all the copies I sat down with my mother to label all that she could remember. My daughter is the family stuff hoarder and she is keeping track of everything now. Now is a tough time for my son, daughter and grand kids because us old ones are starting to die off. Counting friends along with family one grand daughter has lost five in the last six months so she can't get over one before the next one happens. Jim

I've been up to my butt in everything except for what I want to do. LOL! I'm getting to the point where I need to decide where all of my hoard of family stuff will go. I have three kids and each would love to have it. It could be divided, but I don't want to do that. I'll have to pick the most responsible one, I guess. Some things can't really be copied, but they will all get photo copies. Wish I knew a good photo restorer. I have one pic of my grandfather who was killed. It is a scan from a newspaper. It looks terrible. But, you can see that my dad got his looks as did my son. I'd love a better picture. It's sad when the older generation starts to go. I lost my parents and grandparents in a 5 year span. Tough. I feel for your granddaughter.

Great thread, hope some more chime in. I found a few pics. Mostly lousy quality, sorry about that. Helping Grandpa put the cows across the road after milking, 1958. With my dog Zip. Oh yeah, my bother and sister are in there as well, and the '64 Dodge. I'm always the geek with glasses. Teaching a calf to lead, getting ready to show at the county fair. What a great Christmas! Fast forward to 1999 in Colorado-all dolled up to be best man in a friends wedding. Talk about lipstick on a pig. Have a wonderful day. Rus

Thanks, Russ nowyo , ya got me looking for some old Christmas photos now. Couldn't find them - yet! - but old photos are still way cool.
This one is 60 years old, Oct 1957. I am the babe in arms, not yet a month old. The black hair I was born with hasn't all fallen out yet.
Just an old pic to share.

Very cool pic Jean, thanks for sharing. Do you remember spending time on that boat growing up?

Hey, Brian beefjello , how are you and Christa doing? Loved the recent photos of your AZ river trip. Gotta get back out to AZ and Alamo Lake sometime....
Do I remember spending time on that boat growing up? Not so much on it, only from seeing it parked on the driveway FOREVER, and photos of it down at Mission Bay (San Diego). My dad must have gotten rid of it before too long, as having four children in rapid succession (five years!), probably didn't leave him much free time to actually sail it. I think my parent's got the most use out of it BC - before children! I know it was a Penguin, don't recall how long it was, but looking at the photo, maybe ten or twelve feet. Ha ha, just looked it up online, it was 11 feet!
Twenty-something years later, my dad got another sailboat, a Lido 14, which was kept down at Mission Bay Yacht Club on a trailer in a parking spot. He always liked sailboats, so he got that one and joined the MBYC. Too bad he and my mom hardly ever used it. Like, maybe once? And it was a disaster! They flipped it over and stuck the mast in the mud of the bay. Fortunately, they were pretty much right in front of the yacht club, so someone came out and rescued them. They got the boat flipped upright and then towed them in. Then, when they were at the dock, my mom stepped off the sailboat and missed the dock. She stepped into the water between the boat and dock. Yikes! That was pretty much the end of it for both of them. Us (adult) kids used to use the boat some during the 70s, it was a lot of fun. But we were no longer minors that could get into the club on my parent's membership. They wanted us to pay to use their facilities. No way! My dad kept the membership and the parking space for many years, don't even want to think about how much money he kept paying. Finally, I told him to quit paying the yacht club, and I'd store the boat at my house. It sat here for another tens years or more, moldering, until I finally sold it for next to nothing (the buyer really only wanted the trailer!). Ya gotta know when to let go....
One thing I learned from that entire episode - a boat is a hole in the ocean that you throw money into!! And that was just a little boat. Jean

Won a lil $, happened upon Pete Rose signing autographs yesterday, and got to visit a dispensary for the first time Hope all is well with you guys! You're right, a boat is a hole in the water you throw money into! We need to coordinate an Alamo trip for sure
