Looks like a very polished well built machine in the making. Your machine will be admired. Welcome to the forum Randy. Like you beefy bearings. Laser cuts and 3-D capability. Must be nice.
Check out my rag-a-muffin PVC barrel tumbler. The set of the shafts on the right can be increased from about 30 RPM to 55 RPM via quick pulley change for serious grinding on certain scenerios. It's overbuilt from junk stuff. 1.5 inch shafts and 1/3HP 1725 RPM motor. Replaced a belt and a bearing in 7 years hard running. Worn out a few PVC barrels running large abrasives. In all, served well. Darn tumbling operation is hard on the components.

Welcome to the forum Randy.
Just curious... how will your build be an improvement over the Thumler's 12 that you are taking parts from?
Better, stronger, faster - like the 6 Million Dollar Man?
Your clear lid will frost over in a quickness once you start rolling rocks in there. If you care.
Looking forward to seeing your finished creation!

Hey James,
Love your ragamuffin setup! And thanks for the compliments!
I'd be lost without my 3d printers and laser

Thanks for the welcome! Well, The Thumler's barrel was nice, and found the cheapest motor was from the Thumler's company. But everything else stops there. I designed it off the Rebel 17 Extreme Brass tumbler. Best looking design I saw out there. real bearings instead of plastic bushings Solid base and frame vs the cheap sheet metal Thumler's uses. The 3D printer rollers work great and provide a lot of grip. And if and when they ever wear out, just print some more. Right now I just have all the parts attached to 2x4's until the rest of the side rails arrive. Then cut and powder coat a 1/4" aluminum bed then locate all of the components oto that. As for the clear lid, it's been in for 24 hours in 60 grit and can still see thru it with hardly a scuff. And buy the time it gets to the polish stage it, like the rocks will polish. And if not, I'll just cut another I decided to build the 12 after running with my Harbor Fright tumbler that I modified. Welcome to the forum Randy. Hello randys and welcome to the forum. Great build you got going on. One word of wisdom is that you really need another barrel dedicated to the polish stage. The SiC particles get embedded in the rubber/plastic and you will not get a good polish.

A modern and polished version of that old Nelson we have been seeing lately. Good luck!

Poetry. I do find the restraints to prevent barrel from shifting are best built robust. Can't go wrong with fine bearings. The only time I ever cooked pillar block bearings was from a spill and slurry got in them. Tumbling glass, concrete and metals creates gas and can blow thru the seals on most caps. The patience motto, great attention to detail. The whole build is a testimonial.

That is sweeeeeet! As long as you are building your own, take the best design/ideas from other tumblers. Nothing on the market as good as what you can make yourself!
Welcome from Southern California. Jean

You might be new to the hobby, but quite obviously have some time in the building of things; first class tumbler. I've seen other people use that aluminum structural bar, what is it called and where does it come from?

I did some looking, like the material and initial cost, but $24 and up to ship, or a 90 mile round trip [through Portland, OR] to pick up makes it tough. Thanks.

I have a company in china that I purchase from. I consult with them on their 3d printers. And designing a new large 3D printer for them. SO they give me great deals.

Both up and running like a champ now! Think the next one will be another 17 pounder soon.
