I just unloaded a Lot-O full of lots of colorful rocks. The stars of the show are the carnelians Drummond Island Rocks rocks gave me as a thank you for taking him Petoskey stone hunting. They took a lot of time to sort through each week in the rough stage, but they sure were worth the effort. I think someone recently described one of Chuck's batches as "cheerful" or something similar. I think that's a good description. Most of the rest of the batch is scraps from making crosses. I make a lot of little crosses out of Michigan materials. There's a lot of unakite in this batch. The carnelians. Some are very nicely banded. Most are not banded, but still really nice. Unakite from Lake Superior, and maybe some from Lake Huron Chert from Lake Huron near my house. I'm not sure what this is, but it's probably from Lake Huron. A few of the cross making scraps

Awesome job on those carnelians Rob. They are a total pain in the butt at clean outs. I think I had about 20 pounds of them and thought I would never see the end of them.

Chuck There are still a few rolling around in one of my barrels, but they're manageable now. Thanks again for those. I want to put them in a bowl in the living room, but I'm seriously worried that someone will try to eat them.

Nice batch. That Carnelian does look tasty.
Carnelian rough I've had was highly fractured. Pain in the but like Chuck said. I think the keepers are worth it though.

Even people that are not into rocks are impressed with the color. They almost glow. Cuhck

Cuhck, I like the contrast between the dark bowl and the carnelians. Now I need to find a dark colored bowl.

Love the carnelians. What do you use the cross scraps for?

Love the carnelians. What do you use the cross scraps for? I don’t use them for anything. They make nice smalls for my tumblers and I don’t like to waste them. Someday I’ll start selling some tumbled rocks and someone may want them for something.

That's great stuff Rob Jugglerguy. I love the volume and the material you're putting out. I'm dealing with a paltry 4 lb barrel, and I'm jealous of the amount you're producing. Simply great stuff all the way around. Dave

Simply great stuff all the way around. Dave This is an unusual amount of material for me to produce. I tend to stockpile material of the same type until the rough is all gone or I have enough to fill the Lot-O. I’ve been working through some of my stash. There will be a dry period pretty soon.

That carnelian and unakite look great together. Very colorful, indeed!

Was any of that chert bigger pieces that could be used for flintknapping? The town is not to far away from where I hunt Petoskey's and fossils in Grand Traverse bay.
