An area filed with POS 3rd world countries and a couple major hurricanes just went through there and washed all kinds of crap out to sea.
Not surprised.
No money to be made cleaning it up. Until it starts to mess with the tourist dollars.
At least it isn't radioactive.

Read an article about an aquatic drone litter picker to deal with the plastics, don't know how far things have progressed on it.

Until it starts to mess with the tourist dollars. At least it isn't radioactive. The trash comes from numerous sources. Cruise ships and military ships for example dump their waste in to the oceans. Litter on the roads can wash in to places like rivers and end up in the oceans. Etc. Even in the U.S. the government has disposed of nuclear waste and toxic chemical warfare agents by dumping them in the ocean off of the Farralon Islands. And coastal cites pump raw sewage 10 miles out off shore. Ever look at the California Fish and Game Fishing License Handbook? There is a whole section on areas where they discuss limiting the intake of fish from certain areas due to high levels of dioxins, PCBS, etc. from industrial waste. This is not a third world country issue. It occurs in a lot of countries.
