Anyone tried knapping those new glass bottles (bottoms) that Budweiser has out for their premium Bub Light beer? Dark purple... I find them and break the bottoms off and stick them away... Dang it,I meant dark blue........I'll get some photos..

Didn't try the bottoms, I broke a bunch up to tumble slightly to make look alike beach glass. The rest of the bottles were so thin, it didn't look like it would last in the tumbler more than a few minutes. I had thoughts of covering the bare dirt in the wife's house plants in the front window. The glass would keep the muddy water from splashing out and look kinda neat with the Sun shining thru it !

Don't know, I wound up throwing everything away when I saw how thin the sides were. I would think the bottoms would work if they are 3/16 th. , if they are that thin you would need a fairly pointy pressure flaker to run flakes any distance without folding the piece. I have tried fairly thin Agate slabs in the past and wound up re-inventing the Jack Knife . Thought it was because my tip on the tool was fairly blunt and didn't focus the pressure in a small enough area ! Good luck !

They are not quit 3/16th inch thick, have seen a few guys knapp some points from the bottoms.....They came out pretty nice.. As for the sides,I tossed them out, kept the top rims, for tumbling though...

Nice. I tried knapping glass once and all I ended up with was a bunch of bloody shards. Don't they say, "if you ain't bleeding you ain't knapping"? I've never tried glass but sure can bleed when I use obsidian.

I've knapped points using the thick bottoms of cobalt blue coffee mugs. I find these at flea markets and thrift stores.

I can only imagine the practice, skill and "do-overs" that are required to do a point out of glass. Very nice work, for sure!

Anyone working glass might consider getting a radius diamond wheel from E-bay seller ( Jade Carver ). He has wheels from 1/4 inch on up in width. You run a concave groove all the way around the edge and it will cut out a lot of time and broken points. Working a concave edge means you are always below center with your flakers point and flakes detach much easier. I have 1/4 inch and 3/8 th. in. wheels I paid roughly $ 30.00 - $35.00 each for. I also use my 1 inch flat Diamond wheel to sharpen my flaker tips. I chuck my Copper tips in my electric drill and run the reverse direction of the wheel. The water keeps the heat down and that way you don't lose the temper in the tool tip ( soften it ), the water , ( lot's of it ) keeps the copper from loading up the diamond wheel. I believe the wheel I use is 120 grit, it doesn't leave grooves on the point. Someone is gonna call Bull$hit on that last statement because they have tried Copper, Aluminum or Brass on a standard grinding wheel, which will load up in a blink of an eye. A Diamond wheel with with a generous water supply won't ! Keep the pressure on the wheel to a minimum, don't lean on it (with full body weight) and you needn't worry about peeling off all your Diamond coating.

I use a tile saw and just cut off the handle and then cut off the entire bottom while turning the mug - works great and the cobalt blue coffee mugs are flat and not concave. As the coffee mug bottoms are larger and thicker than most bottles, I sometimes trim/square/shape them up or cut it in half and make a couple points. Rick B
