Hello, i m buying a vibratory tumbler... i never use that.. i read many tutos and informations... i see how much grit use... but impossible to read how much media use... use ceramic ? use plastic ? i have plan to buy a 12 or 14 or 16 inch vibratory tumbler.... and i have no idea about how much media i need for each size... i live in Europe, and here very few choice to buy vibratory tumbler.... buy directly in USA is difficult , few have 220v.... so i choose buy a "professional" one from China, i put a picture here... but before choose the diameter, i try to know about media... because it s same.. very difficult find it in France.... :/ thanks for your answer Attachments:

You should use ceramic media in a vibratory tumbler, not plastic. I use at least 1/3 of the volume, but sometimes half or more depending on what I’m tumbling.

Ceramic. Be sure you get the non abrasive ones. Some people get by without any media, just fill the bowl with a mix of large and small stones.

I’ve never seen that particular tumbler. I use a Lot-O, which I love.
I have no idea where you would buy ceramic media in France. I don’t think you’ll need many kg though. Maybe 2-4 kg. You can reuse them many times, but eventually they’ll wear down to nothing. You can move them along with the rocks from stage to stage. Rinse them right along with the rocks.

Sorry I didn’t understand that you wanted something from the U.S. I buy my ceramic from The Rock Shed. I use a mixture of the large and small ceramic cylinders. They also sell Lot-O tumblers at the best price as far as I know.

You can use small stones as media, if you haven't got small pieces of your tumbling rocks then try small fish tank gravel. Pick through it though and don't use pebbles with holes and cracks that will transfer grit between stages.
Good luck and keep us posted about your progress.

Have a look in pet shops for fish tank gravel, that way you can pick what you think is best.
I have the same problem with prices in USA looking good until you add postage and suddenly it's very expensive.

Looks like an industrial grade vibe. Well built from looks of photo. Looks like polyurethane tub. Are you sure it is for lapidary and not metals ? Can you copy and paste the specifications ? Like the motor speed or the vibration rate mainly. motor hP/KW ? must be sitting on 12 springs, wow. Most sit on 4 springs. tub amazing, it is so thick(the yellow material) Impressive looking machine. best to have a cover to contain moisture for a lapidary vibe tumbler, got a cover ??

Ha, me going smaller. Don't even want that monster. Even if a gift and they set it up in the shop lol. Thing of nightmares. My 14 pounder is enough to feed.

There's even bigger machines, quite interesting but as you say way out of our league. Power bills would go up too 3500Kw would have your wife /minister of finance grumbling.
I saw cheap Aluminium Oxide too if you want to buy 20 tons.
